With a sweltering heat wave engulfing the country, a recent online survey conducted by The Express Tribune has revealed that a vast majority of areas are facing more than 10 hours of load shedding daily.
Data from the research, compiled by provinces, shows that the worst hit consumers reside in Punjab. Of the 870 respondents from Punjab, 91% reported facing up to 10 hours of load-shedding daily, while 5% reported that they faced 6 to 10 hours of electricity outage each day.
People living in large cities of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan follow as close seconds to Punjab with 76% of respondents from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa reporting load-shedding of more than 10 hours daily, followed by residents of Balochistan where 74% people are braving the summer season with 10 hours or more of electricity outages.
Surprisingly, and contrary to public perception, the federal capital has not been spared the brunt of load-shedding either with 79% people saying they faced 6 or more hours of load-shedding daily. 46% of those living in Islamabad reported that they did not have electricity for more than 10 hours daily.
The province where the electricity crisis seems to be in control is Sindh. Only 39% people in the province report that they had load-shedding for more than 10 hours. Indeed, unlike other provinces, 18% of people in Sindh also report that in their areas, load-shedding is less than one hour daily.
A total of 1,898 people have participated in this internet based survey with 870 from Punjab, 622 from Sindh, 124 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 213 from Islamabad and 69 from Balochistan.

Mostly Pakistani rural areas (villages) are facing the most ever worst load shedding up to 18 hours daily than urban areas whereas Pakistan's economy is based on agriculture and farmers live in the villages not in the urban areas and their economy and sources of income are based on agriculture and most worst condition in the village is diesel is available in the villages @100+ per liter to run the diesel-based tubewells called peters to water and prepare their lands for cultivation.......
@Saima Malik. Because the total annual development budget of the city that generates 68% of Pakistan's tax revenues is Rs. 14 billion while your metro bus project alone cost Rs. 32 billion. On another note, the problem is with the management of energy resources in Punjab. WAPDA doesnt manage things as efficiently as KESC is doing in Karachi for the last 3 years. The idea that Punjab's electricity is being hijacked by the rest of Pakistan is plain wrong.
@beenish usmani: Something known as basic rights and ELCTRICITY is one of them. Though we are proud of being an atomic power but madam!!! it will do nothing because we as nation are going in the stoneage day by day because of this elctricity shortage and inflation and many othe problems and being an atomic power will not save us.
Karachi being the biggest business unit is facing electricity crisis. I work in the biggest bank of Pakistan and we are facing electricity shortage 9 hours a days and the whole building runs on generator. THINK LOGICALLY
@ Gulam Rasool "Kuldeep sharma", Point to be noted ,, agreed 101%
my lovely daughter i think we have to fix our problems as our economy going down day by day because of power crisis if we do not resolve it we not gonna raise so we have to solve our basic problems no other country has problems people and government like this so grow up
I live in defence phase 6 and I face load shedding up to 8-9 hours daily :(
@Syed A. Mateen However its your Internal matter(hence leaving first point), but i am just curious to know what kind of system you are requesting for? if you are not able to deal things 1 by 1 then you will ask for help? why don't you try yourself, look we Indian were also suffering from Power shortage till mid 90s (a little bit now) and by 2018 we will be exporting our surplus electricity, but we struggle and scenario has changed, if we can in such large scale than surely you can easily in small scale. Handing over every thing in foreign hand means you will never stand on your feet. Friend that is why there is not any Pakistani Heavy Engineering MNC. (Consider the fact that you have every thing to do so)
i am sure if this survey had a "over 20 hours" option, 91% from Punjab would have ticked that one.
Yes exactly in some areas under FESCO in Jhang district I have seen approximately 18 hours daily load shedding where I have lived in also......
10 hours scale is too low ET. here in Gujrat loadshedding was around 21 hours
Today is 28th May ET, your Top story should be about Yum-e-Takbeer instead of Power Crises!! We must need to raise what we have instead of what we are lacking... No Country is perfect we are the one who will make our Country THE BEST one day Insha ALLAH... but for now where we are good; we need to highlight those areas and 28th May is indeed the biggest day in Pakistan History!!
the survey was badly put together . It lacked details . We all know we are suffering from 12 hour plus load shedding
After Gawadar Port, we should also hand over all power generating companies in Pakistan, including KESC and Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) to Chinese Companies, so that they should manage uninterrupted supply of electricity and gas to citizens of Pakistan, as these are the biggest problems that people are facing from ages.
