The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has formed a provincial coordination committee to facilitate the implementation of its election manifesto, The Express Tribune learnt on Saturday.
The committee will probe means to enable the implementation of plans developed to improve education, health, local government, planning and development, energy and power sectors.
The committee will be headed by PTI chief Imran Khan and will consist of handpicked members including Asad Umar, Jahangir Tarren, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Javed Hashmi, Asad Qaiser, Pervaiz Khattak and Atif Khan.
It was further learnt former Higher Education Commission (HEC) Chairperson Attaur Rehman and PTI Senior Vice President Ishaq Khan Khakwani may also be included in the group.
“The committee is supposed to work as a liaison body. It will coordinate with the provincial government and administration, giving advice on various development plans to be executed according to the party’s manifesto,” said someone familiar with the matter.
The members will have more powers as compared to elected MPAs as far as planning and initiating developmental projects are concerned, he informed, adding the members would also play a key role in suggesting reforms in various provincial government departments.
When contacted, PTI Peshawar President Atif Khan, a member of the said committee, confirmed the formation of the body. Atif stated the committee had been constituted in order to fully ensure the implementation of PTI’s development plans for the province, as previously pledged to the people.
In response to a question, the district president said PTI’s decision making was not centric as suggestions from party members were always welcomed.
Earlier, Awami National Party Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) President Afrasiab Khattak had criticised the PTI’s central leadership for its involvement in provincial matters, alleging important decisions regarding K-P would now be imposed from PTI’s leadership sitting in Punjab.
However, when contacted, K-P PTI Secretary Information Aqeel Razzaq said in response that people would judge the party by its performance as opposed to who made decisions when it went to the polls again in five years.
“PTI has competent people in every field, and it is our right to utilise their experience in the interest of the province,” Razzaq maintained.
He further added it was the party’s utmost priority to deliver what it pledged to the people. “We cannot take any risks. If the PTI fails to deliver in K-P, there will be no justification in asking people to vote for us in five years.”

If required by PTI, I can also provide my unofficial assistance to provide guidence for reforms in KPK. Kamran Hafeez Chohan Superintending Engineer, Department of Local Govt. & Rural Development, Muzaffarabad (AJK) 03009509948/03558100625
@Sinam. You are absolutely correct, if Solar Energy is brought to Pakistan, then most homes can utilize the solar panels and meet their power requirements of the day. Power from the grid is required only at night times & this will solve most problems.
@Tabinda: and your personal hate supersedes the national interest.... no doubt Pakistan is in a such a dire state.
@Tabinda: Imran doesnt love you either!
This has been done when a 72 years old veteran has been appointed CM. Just imagine if they had anominated a youth say of 30 as CM, then I think all these handpicked mentors would have shifted to CM house for a 24/7 look after.
By forming this ultra constitutional body PTI has unnecessarily heightened the already high expectations. Now it calls for more than 100% execution of its commitments.
@PEACE: Well if you really want the love of people from Pakhtoons, then I suggest you start by calling the province by its proper name Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, or Pakhtunkhwa or KPK (for short) and not the outdated and incorrect "NWFP". Second the police department in KPK is the only police department that seems to work. Granted some improvements could be made but compared to Balochistan, where there is no police; Sindh and Punjab, where the police belong to the politicians; the KPK police is the only one that goes toe to toe with militants on an almost DAILY basis, with no backing from the Army!
But I disagree with the conversion of the CM and Governor House. They're state buildings used to entertain state guests. Its a practice that's prevalent in every country, rich or poor. I wouldn't have been against converting it but Peshawar is going through a tough time now and both residences are in high security zones and in very close proximity to the offices that are relevant to their work. In other words, the entire state apparatus is situated in that part of the Peshawar Cantonment, including the police, civil, judicial and army headquarters. This kind of symbolism makes no sense in an environment this tense. People lauding this need to think twice about the unnecessary risk about to be undertaken. I say vacate the residence once there's a clear path to peace and prosperity. That way you'll know how far you've come and also be able to hold your promise to the public. Right now its too early to tell anything or what's going to happen.
Imran can do nothing except abusing others. I hate him.
@Historian 1: I am least interested in conversion of Cm/Governor house as I look at them cheap publicity stunts. They should more focus on controlling corruption, reviving the health sector, improving education sector, local governance, and power generation.
@Historian 1 Please do some research. It has already been announced that PTI will convert chief minister house into a library . Heres the proof https://twitter.com/Pervaiz_Khattak/status/335358065148850176
Mr.Afrasiyab Khattak needs to be informed that people voted for change in the name of PTi and Imran Khan. Im sure PTI supporters in KP will be more than happy to know that IK himself will oversee their affairs.
@Historian 1: announcement for CM house already made. Khattak will not be living there at all. Governor House is in the scope of federal govt.
May Allah succeed PTI in its plans for development of KPK .. Ameen
@FactCheck:
My dear Imran Lover, I am not against him, but what I wish to see is the decisions from him and his elected reps in their respective areas and this type of set up mostly go wrong not because of the lack of intelligence and capabilities but because of its saturation. Just like cricket where you cannot establish your batting order with all openers. You need all cadres that are already available in KP.
@Bill: Governor House cannot be converted without the permission of Federal Government as Governor house control is in Central Government hand not in Provincial Government.
PTI is not going to leave any stone unturned for proving its calibre and potential. ANP ruled (ruined) the province for 5 years just to turn out to be a colossal failure, yet they have started to criticise a government which has not taken charge as yet.
In reality people voted for Imran Khan and his party so even though he is not part of the provincial assembly it is a good step by him and PTI to supervise and advice the provincial govt. It will only help them to move in the right direction. As for ANP and PTI-haters, get a life people.
What will be the role of elected MPAs of PTI; ll they be stooges! doing nothing but just paying visits to the provincial assembly. PTI needs to take local activists into confidence and make them a shareholder in decisions regarding the development of Province.
@Khan gul Internal matter what its a shadi problem or province matters???
@ashar:
But sir, all the cooks of Pakistan already spoiled the soup to the point it is not good for human consumption.
May be a good cook will emerge from the group go cooks. Think of it this way, “this is a cooking competition” as far as Imran is concerned.
Good Luck and God Speed to Imran. At least the man’s heart is in the right place.
This committee is un-consitutional and amounts to interference in province's internal matters. Shame on Imran Khan.
A very good decision by Imran khan, there should be some check and balance on KP performance by top leadership as this never happened before in other governments.
Imran talks like ignorant people. I never liked him.
Nothing is expected from PTI because it is led by a person who does not know ethics of communication. PTI lost elections due to proud (GHAROOR) and arrogance of Imran. Allah likes humbleness. Allah dislikes arrogance.
Remote control governance..
They do intend to stay in power for the full legislation period.
Rex Minor
@Historian 1: it takes a while to plan school/libraries. no magic wand. judge them after 1-2 years at minimum and 3-4 years to be realistic
did he formed the committee to stop the drons ? if not than i think priority is this.
first priority is PEACE and control for DRONE attacks, hope Mr.IK will controll all.Because IK always do what he talks...so without majority2/3 he will not make government. lets see...
The PTI KPK Committee should be the Loya Jerga equivalent for Policy Development based on scientific statistics and research. The Body is made up of an execellent leader, the highest paid business and commercially astute man, some politicians of outstanding integrity ( a very rare attribute in Pakistan). They should perform very well: the immediate issue is Energy. Please PTI seriously look at Solar as this is not being properly discussed in your manifesto. For example, Germany's use of Solar energy should be properly considered for implementation in KPK. Best wishes to PTI IN KPK.
Well the difference b/w PTI and PML N is clear... PTI: Education, health, local government, energy and power. PML N: Metro bus and bullet trains!
Feel the difference people!
Well done,we pray that PTI would deliver according to its manifesto.I beleive if merit based corruption free system would be implemented the followers will be proud of it otherwise we will lose hope in politics, especially youngsters. Secondly i second the comment of K-P PTI Secretary Information Aqeel Razzaq about decision making policy.
Pray again for PTI's success.
I am sure KPK government will do its best to bring Peace, love and Harmony in the region, we hope the committee will work properly under the supervision of Imran, Javed , shah Mahmaood and many others who are being consider the best and talented leaders. It is challenging job but I’m hopeful this committee and local leaders will do its best to make the province role model for other province, The people of KPK are the asset of Pakistan, They are talented, they are patriot , they are brave, ….Allah help the PTI in mission of New Pakistan... Inshallh we will get rid of American and wenstern Slavery ..
what matter is performance and improvement in the daily life of a common man, no matter how it comes. But it is for sure that only distinctly qualified People can do this..
Bravo!! What a move.. One can already feel the Naya KPK (& Pakistan) in the making. For all those who crticize this arrangement, please be clear that this committe has been formed to ensure KPK elects head towards the right direction at the right pace without interferring in its day to day functions.
Well Imran Khan is using his head which has never been used by the other leaders.there must be a check on everything.
@Historian 1: CM house has already been announced as a public library, Governor house is still pending because current governer is of Zardari,s nomination.
The time Governer would leave office i m sure they will make governer house as school/uni.
@HIstorian 1: Dude, they haven't even taken oath yet.
CM KPK & PTI office holders......Please don't be deterred by the criticism of ANP minions. They could not deliver in 5 years except devouring KPK's resources & now they don't want you to improve the situation.Good luck to you all my PTI friends & God speed !!!
@Historian 1 Sure!! Is that your biggest problem at this point of time? If yes!! One thing is for sure, You are not from KPK and you are a PTI hater. I mean come on Terrorism & loadshedding are the biggest issues of Pakistan at the momment. Policy statement is already being given!! CM house will be library INSHAALLAH!! Governer is not from KPK government, he is a representative of state (Appointed by President) so that wont happen.
Naya KPK on its way
You can already feel good intentions, may Allah help them, and clear all obstacles in front of them. Ameen
Too many cooks spoil the soup
Supporter of Imran but I think this needs to be looked into as people may start thinking this committee is defacto and not the CM and his cabinet.
@Historian 1:
Please do some research before posting, PTI has already announced chief minister house will be converted to a library, even Pervaiz Khattak has announced it as well.
Governor house, comes under federal government and NOT provincial government.
PTI has said, they will seek permission from Nawaz Sharif government so that they can convert it to a public utility as well.
hope this helps!
From my heat I want PTI to be a successful in NWFP. If Iran Khan able to deliver there, then it will create love for Punjabis. And then inshALLAH after 5 years other provinces will vote for PTI.
One suggestion to Imran; create jobs in NWFP and that will reduce and evidently eradicate the terrorism. Also, make an effort to compensate those people who are suffered by an artificial war.
Also, give a special attention on the Police system, and I would highly recommend you to overhaul the entire NWFP's Police Department.
Niyaat saaf manzil asaan..simple rule....God Bless you IK and your team
Great idea. Good governance in KPK will serve as a great training boot camp for PTI to experiment with its manifesto.
May Allah help Imran Khan and team for the foundation of NAYA PAKISTAN !
We are waiting for KP Chief Minister House to be converted to a Library and Governor House to be converted to a School?
