The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has stopped seven private medical colleges from offering admissions after inspections revealed they were either short of faculty or lacked facilities.
This was stated by PMDC Administrator Dr Amjad Mehmood at a press conference on Saturday.
The seven colleges include Abbottabad International Medical College, Muhammad Medical College in Mirpur Khas, Mohiuddin Islamic Medical College in Mirpur, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Al-Tibri Medical College in Karachi, Independent Medical College in Faisalabad, Rahbar Medical College and Faryaal Medical College, Lahore.
Mehmood said the colleges could resume admissions once they overcame tdeficiencies.
“The idea is not to shut them down but ensure better facilities.”
He said teaching hospitals have also been notified to strictly follow Regulation 17(6) of the Medical and Dental Institutions Regulations 2012 which requires teaching hospitals to operate 50 per cent of the hospital beds free-of-charge for accommodation and consultation.
He said the PMDC has removed 80 per cent of the experience certificate backlog and it is conducting a crackdown against quackery in Bhara Kahu, Tarlai and Tarnol with the help of the Islamabad Capital Territory administration. The council is also trying to follow-up on complaints filed against doctors for medical negligence.
Mehmood had earlier asked the Auditor General of Pakistan to conduct a five-year audit of PMDC. Around 83 observations about corruption during previous administrations including illegal registration of medical colleges, dubious recruitments and overspending on construction were noted in the audit, he said.

PM&DC should pay attention to those colleges which are running just for business purposes. they have no concerned with the student's future.they have no appropriate faculty members. No Rules & Regulations. No merit for admissions. Just taking donations & extra fees for admissions. PM&DC should strictly take action on these colleges & finish or bann their affiliations or should give them warning because these colleges are not bothering the Rules & Regulations of PM&DC and playing with the future of students. we want to pay attention of PM&DC towards the UM&DC which is recieving almost 75% detention fee from the students which is totally unfair with the students. No extra classes, lack of necessary facilities. Its totally loss of parents's money % loss of years of students. No extra burden on teachers.then why they are snatching money from people. PM&DC should must take action on this college. ITS A REQUEST OF STUDENT
PMDC has lost its credibility for not fair enough to close down medical colleges and teaching hospitals which are running just for bussiness purpose. They have enrolled teaching faculty whose faces havent been seen for years and they just appear on PMDC visit. Medical ethics has vanished from these and many recognized institutes because of corrupt officials at PMDC. PMDC members are offered expensive gifts upon inspection and it is sad that these characterless members are playing with the future of students and poor patients being at their mercy. Open merit is not encouraged at undergraduate and post graduate level. All rules are broken where self interest and money matters. these and many more evils are grooming at health institutes just because officials are corrupt and characterless. If this goes on then sooner we will be at mercy of butchers.
And the state of affairs within the PMDC is that they don't care to pick up your call even if you call them a zillion times during the 8 office hours on 5 working days of the week. PMDC should first raise her own standards before pointing fingers on others.
This action is absolutely necessary and should be extended to the whole of pakistan. All the IG Police should be provided the List of approved colleges. Remaining must be closed and action initiated against them. This action should also be initiated against unregistered hospitals and Quacks.
