Snooker squad embarks for Doha

PBSA chief hopeful of positive results in back-to-back events.

Pakistan’s four-member snooker squad left yesterday to take part in the 2nd Asian Team event and 1st 6-Red Championship to be held from today in Doha, Qatar.


High hopes have been pinned on IBSF world champion Mohammad Asif, former Asian number two Mohammad Sajjad, Mohammad Majid Ali and Humza Akbar, stated the Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association (PBSA).Seniors, Asif and Sajjad, will feature at the 6-Red event that starts today, with the young guns, Majid and Humza, representing Pakistan in the team tournament that follows.

PBSA President Alamgir Sheikh said the decision to go with the youngsters in the Asian team championship was made keeping in mind the IBSF World U21 Championship that takes place in China in July.

“The aim is to give these two experience of playing against top cueists,” Sheikh told The Express Tribune. But it’s unrealistic to expect the youngsters to win the title.”
