Consumer court: Shoe shop sued for selling ‘defective goods’

The petitioner was offered a new handbag to replace the damaged one, but he did not accept it, says defendant.

LAHORE:

A consumer court has issued notice to the manager of Stylo Shoes for June 26 on a suit seeking damages of almost a quarter of a million rupees for allegedly selling the petitioner a defective pair of shoes and a handbag.

Petitioner Muhammad Babar Butt told the court that he had bought the shoes for Rs550 and the women’s handbag for Rs1,790 in the last week of February.

A day later, he noticed that the pair of shoes and handbag were damaged.

He said that the shop had repaired the shoes and returned them, but they did not appear to be in good condition, while the handbag had not been returned.



He asked the court to direct Stylo Shoes to pay him Rs200,000 in damages and Rs25,000 for lawyer’s fees and to return the Rs2,340 he paid for the bag and shoes.

Tayab Ahmed, the manager of Stylo Shoes, told The Express Tribune that the shoes had been slightly damaged and were repaired.

He said that the petitioner was offered a new handbag to replace the damaged one, but he did not accept it.

He said that the store was still willing to give him a new bag as a replacement.
