FAISALABAD:

Workers at the regional office of the Pakistan International Airlines boycotted work for a day on Wednesday after a scuffle between two groups on matters relating the workers’ union.

Several workers were injured and given first aid on the spot.

Police said the Air League were accuded of attacking the office of the Peoples Unity group and also beat up some workers.

Men belonging to the latter group later protested against the attackers and boycotted work.

Peoples Unity president Ali Abid Baloch said that his group had won the union elections held once in two years. He said his group had been given the mandate till 2013, but the rival group had been pressing him to appoint their men on some important posts.

He said police had been informed about the attack. FIRs would be registered against the Air League workers if they attacked or forced them (Peoples Unity) again, he said.

They later dispersed after some officials requested them to stop their protest and assured them that they would talk to the other group.
