The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has accepted bail request for Arshad Majeed, a contractor arrested over his alleged involvement in misappropriation while purchasing arms worth Rs7 billion for the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) police in 2007.
The bail request was approved against a sum of Rs0.5 million with two reliable sureties after Majeed agreed on paying Rs102 million to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
On Wednesday, a PHC division bench comprising Justice Mazhar Alam Miankhel and Justice Musarrat Hilali was informed by NAB Deputy Prosecutor General Muhammad Jamil that Majeed had filed an application for a settlement with the bureau which was accepted by the NAB chairman.
The chairman said Majeed had paid Rs30 million as bank draft, adding the NAB would not raise objections over Majeed’s release once the remaining amount was paid. Majeed’s council, Athar Minallah, said his client was ready to give the remaining Rs72 million, and handed over a cheque to NAB’s investigation officer Inayatullah Khan.
