Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said Saturday he welcomed a US-Russian peace initiative to end Syria’s civil war but had no plans to resign, in an interview with an Argentine newspaper.
“To resign would be to flee,” he told Clarin when asked if he would consider stepping aside as called for by US Secretary of State John Kerry.

@ali, not too long ago in 1991 saddam was pakistan salah din ayubi and now may be assad hahahhahaha read the history of these peoples how much muslim are they u will know every thing i am not saying saudis kings are good either ....
well atleast someone has the courage to stand up to the west and fight these saudi/qatar funded jidahist. the US and Israel need to think long and hard to determine if replacing the status quo with sunni extremists will serve any purpose. and saudi arabia needs to stop creating wars on the middle east.
His fate will be worse than the tyrant Gaddafi.
@Sexton Blake You are spot on. The problem with Assad is that he has gone too far beyond any respectable truce with the west. And the problem with the Americans is that once they fix their target on someone they will get him anyway regardless of the consequences. They found Saddam underground, OBL on the ground and the Panamian dictator Noriega when he was in a swimming pool in his palace.
The monster has only thought of himself and not the people as seen of his prolonging brutality. He should have resigned (dictators rarely do) a long time ago but he's addicted to power. Unfortunately even the rebels are diluted with extremists and the future of Syria looks bleak.
Won't step down even if the whole world falls apart. This is the tragedy of entire Muslim world, the dictators are having Godly powers and common people are just worms. Who cares if people in the street miserably die or live, as long as man 'God' is in power and this 'God' is always right too.
President Assad would be foolish to listen to Mr. Kerry, and he certainly is not. The US has a very bad record when dealing with ex-leaders it does not like. In one way or the other they finish up dead. The ex-leaders of Iraq and Libya are a case in point, and of course there are numerous other examples.
he is more true believer than most of pakistanis
