RAWALPINDI:

A fire engulfed the Sadiqabad Police Station store room on Friday evening and destroyed important records, despite the hectic efforts of rescue workers.

Police officials from the station said a short circuit caused the fire and said only about 20 per cent of the record was burnt.

However, rescue workers said 40 per cent of the record was burnt, while much of the rest took on water damage during efforts to douse the fire, though they managed to salvage some files. Rescue 1122 workers also assisted in controlling the fire.

A policeman while talking to The Express Tribune said that they were in office when they saw smoke coming from the store room.

“We immediately informed the fire department and began trying to extinguish it, but in a few minutes the fire had engulfed the whole store room,” said a police constable, adding that no one was hurt in the incident.

He said some furniture and records in the store room were destroyed.
