“We have no fight with the Taliban nor are we against anyone,” Khattak said while addressing a press conference accompanied by PTI Provincial President Asad Qaiser at the Officers Mess.
Adhering to the party’s anti-corruption rhetoric, Khattak pledged to eradicate corruption and bring the bureaucracy under strict scrutiny. “Corruption is a curse and we will not tolerate it in our government. Reforms in the existing system will be carried out within the next three months.”
He also announced a community police system would be introduced in the province to manage law and order and create a favourable relation between the police and the masses. Talking about “unnecessary” police checkpoints in the city, Khattak said he would seek a report from the police department regarding the performance of these checkpoints over the past year.
He claimed the PTI would make an exemplary government in K-P where justice would be served to all without any discrimination.
Brushing aside Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl’s (JUI-F) claims of setting up a coalition government in K-P, Khattak said: “There is no truth in Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s statements. The public has given the mandate to PTI. Our coalition partners along with independent candidates are on the same page and will foil any attempts aimed at ruining the public’s mandate.” He added PTI currently enjoys the support of 65 MPAs.
In response to a question about a consensus regarding allocation of ministries and portfolios among coalition partners, Khattak said PTI had no concerns about grabbing high slots, it just intended to serve the public.
He promised the PTI-led government will take all possible measures for the establishment of sustainable peace and introduce developmental measures in education, health and social sectors. “Efforts would be taken to revive the war-shattered economy and to promote industrialisation in K-P,” stressed Khattak, adding the PTI would work tirelessly to fulfil the expectations of its voters.
Showing support for the PTI’s policies, independent candidate from PK-61 Kohistan-I Abdul Haq Khan formally announced he would be joining PTI.

@Naureen Malik: but you are not zhocked by NS decision...but then for people like u country comes next to political affiliation...
@imran bhatt: funny....its not necessary that a new face is appointed a chief minister. ...had it been so...how c.ms ik would have appointed.you clearly misunderstood the concept of new faces...
@Rex Minor:
the tribal elders control the bods with a strict discipine than that the marines are used to.
The same 'Tribal Elders' who got systemically massacred by the Taliban? You believe that the 'Tribal Elders' asked the Taliban to massacre them to show their 'strict discipline'?
Sir, your medicines are not working. Here is an antidote.
This is a pattern and tells us how the Taliban and their patron Al Qaeda have come under pressure lately from the jirgas and reacted. In March, they had to massacre a jirga in Darra Adam Khel and last month they repeated the deed on a jirga in Orakzai agency, killing over a hundred elders. This is stage two of the strategy employed by the terrorists. They began by killing the maliks and single individuals of influence in the Tribal Areas to replace the traditional system of self-governance. Stage two is now upon us and is more problematic

@SarcasticBilla: {11 years, unlimited money and state of the art military and Americans still unable to defeat them.}
11 years of half hearted war? Lets have one year of all out war with single focus determination and clear policy goals of absolutely zero tolerance. How can you claim we have failed when you and likes of you (a large majority) as of today have not taken ownership of this war and have never declared TTP to be Enemy of State in clear / unconditional terms? Am I wrong?
@imran bhatt: : You got the point! Nothing goes without EXPERIENCE! But those who were failures in experience do not count. Mr Nawaz Sharif is the most seasoned and experinced politician in the country who was removed by the treasonal act of a military man. Now he has th opportunity to complete the job for which he was elected more than a decade ago an reconfirmed again. Let IK prove his metal in politics:
Rex Minor
The war on terror ends in KPK, which means in simple language the so called terrorists are out of work. The Talibans do not negotiate, never have in their history, a simple dialogue would do the job. Khan Khatak knows it, the tribal elders control the bods with a strict discipine than that the marines are used to. Nawaz Sharif will have a tougher job though, he must deliver-- Drone Stop as he announced.
Rex Minor
Why dont we criticise Americans as well .....actually dey are so progressing through dialogue ....so wats bad if we inch forward in the same direction
Talk to them and send them to Karachi, to facilitate their businss
I am shocked at IK's people wanting to talk to the killers of our shaheeds. May Allah do His his justice by forever blessing our shaheeds in heaven and reserving the hot place for the killers and those want to negotiate with them
I am not surprised at all. Even before elections we all know how Imran Khan tried to appease Talibans and when they were killing MQM/ANP workers in Karachi he asked Talibans in a gathering to stop suicide bombing for few days as there will be "naya Pakistan" very soon.. This was the "naya Pakistan" he was talking about...negotiating with terrorists and suicide bombers in PTI's naya Pakistan...I am sure none of the PTI supporters will have a logical answer to this...negotiating with people who killed thousands of innocent Pakistanis, thousands of army men yet PTI says "“We have no fight with the Taliban nor are we against anyone,” Well done!
@Ch. Allah Daad: What about A team of Taliban in Punjab?
@Ali: That is too cynical!!!
11 years, unlimited money and state of the art military and Americans still unable to defeat them. Yeah, follow their lead cuz we have so much surplus cash and young kids ready to be sacrificed.
We are ready to give respect to terrorist, the respect they are demanding.PTI Chief Mnister Nominee. Terrorist also ready to give us respect. they respected us a lot by killing 22 more people in Mosque today. The rejectes ANP were not coward.
good decision. they should do whatever they can for peace without listening to fake pro-war liberals (in reality sectarian and social class fascists)
So should we shoot all old people? This guy has a corruption free past and knows how to manage his political opponents. PTI's KP team is a mix of young and old. I think this is the best choice. Best of Luck PTI, go and deliver & let useless people talk.
We fought against Taliban using American money and what we got after 10 years of war is more than one bomb attack almost everyday. Let's get out of this war and see if things change. Past policy has failed miserably. I agree with PTI's policy.
Pakistani soldiers/civilians are being martyred by 'Taliban' and you say you have no fight with them? LOL 'naya Pakistan'
Thank God , now no bomb ballast no firing in KP . Is it possible ???
@sensible: he may not have good past but under the guidance of IK he can deliver good for KPK. REALLY!!!!!
This statement was given on a day when two bombs killed 13 people who were coming out of a mosque after jumma prayers. So this is what you get if you vote for closet Taliban. Shame on them all.
“We have no fight with the Taliban nor are we against anyone,” Khattak said
Taliban would be so grateful for that.
PS- Do you think you can afford to have a fight with those who stole the election for you?
So according to him it is not Talibanization and he does not know who does the terrorism. Then pray tell me who he will negotiate with?
Dear Bro's ... Pervaiz Khattak is a competetent individual. through out his career, there is no charges of corruption on his profile. Earlier he was PPP cadidate and after demise of BB he joined QWP. One more thing i must say that IK is making govt with his coilation partners and in such situation i believe experiance is surely countable to keep all stake holders on one page.
@imran bhatt: Your statement is an oxymoron itself. Be clear what you yourself want. All those critisizing PTI, let the work begins and you will see how PTI works & how will your leader(s) work.
Imran khan you don't find any young blood for this post. Only experience is not necessary. Motivation is also required this CM will be just like chief election commosioner which even cannot talk fluenctly. NEEd a new blood for this wretched Province.
@imran bhatt: End of the day, what really matters are the intentions and ensuing results, rest is mere detail.
Lots of false parallels here. America at some level is not that vested in your social order viz votes for women,flogging, stoning, sectarianism etc and will be open to realpolitik but should you not care? Further IRA et al referred to were negotiations on power sharing not ceding constitutional issues and sovereignty. Bottomline a state negotiating from a position of weakness will come to grief.
If some one do's not favour the negotiation with taliban then why he do's not ask US. He should believe in negotiation.If not then he should oppose negotiation with India too.Taliban has been made a force, therefore, negotiation process is the only line leading to peace and end of killings of innocent children,women,men.
Guys, they have just started. Give them a break. Let them do what they say. If Army was capable enough they would have sorted the matter long ago. So instead of commenting mindlessly, wait, watch and pray that things get well. Do you want another term of Maulana Fazl, ANP in KPK ?
@Ali, Indeed doing military operations again and again is insanity. No solution other than talks. @Mirza, As opposed to not recognising Taliban and having our soldiers killed even faster? Great logic man "look they are killing our soldiers so let's escalate the conflict and have more soldiers and civilians killed". Easy thing to say sitting in your air conditioned room....probably overseas.
he may not have good past but under the guidance of IK he can deliver good for KPK.
Could PTI not find anybody younger, the facade of it being a party representative of youth crashed one week of elections
After bringing their B teams into power in KP, Taliban can now focus on other provinces.
@Ali: So what's you point? PTI has clearly said they're going to do things differently than before.
@Ali: Indeed PMLN (nawaz sharif) 1993 1998, 2008, 2013.
BTW I am surprised to see that a news on PTI for past 3 hours on ET and yet only ONE comment.
Here is a picture of the real Naya Pakistan, two "youngmen" of past retirement age deciding to apease Taliban.
naya Pakistan = Talibistan
RIP, women rights in KPK!!!
Let us recognize Taliban and negotiate with them while they keep killing our soldiers accelerated speed.
In his entire election campaign IK always favoured new talent over experience. However, by keeping on to his slogan of Change, the very first change he managed to bring forward is to change his promise by selecting an experienced Pervaiz Khattak over fresh and inexperienced Asad Qaiser. If experience is the prime qualification to run a government, then Mr Sharief is lot more experienced in the affairs of state than Mr Khan.
As ANP, and everyone else who has tried before would say... "Goodluck"! sarcasm intended Insanity is defined as doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome
