The application for recounting of votes was submitted by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Omar Ayub, who lost the seat to Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) candidate Raja Aamer Zaman.
Zaman secured the Haripur seat with 116,579 votes, while Ayub bagged only 114,374 votes.
Earlier on Friday, MQM had demanded re-polling in all polling stations of the NA-250 constituency in Karachi.
Similarly, PTI had asked for re-polling all across Karachi and to recount votes for Lahore’s NA-122. The ECP rejected MQM’s appeal and PTI’s request for recounting.

Evidence was vote difference, on Ballot count form given to every polling agent at every polling station signed and sealed by every polling agent, and results announced on these polling stations by District returning officer.
Evidence was clear and sound enough to proceed further.
Reservations, doubts and challenges to the results in a number of seats notwithstanding, all the parties should emulate the example set by the PPP and ANP in accepting the mandate of the people even when it went against them. This is the true democratic spirit. The more gracefully all parties handle themselves in the aftermath of the elections, the smoother will be the task of government formation, and the sooner will the country settle down to the real task: confronting the myriads of serious issues afflicting the country. We hope the political parties will live up to the expectations of the people in this regard and behave with exemplary maturity and in a true democratic spirit.
Because in Haripur interest of PML (N) is involved?

@Breakingbad. Yes, when margin is close ECP an agree to recount. As counting is done by people, human error element can't be ignored. Vehari is my halka btw, and again the margin was very close. PMLN had won the seat and PTI requested a recount, which was granted but after recount PTI still lost. Any lead above 7000 etc you have to provide some tangible evidence for recount. Its not rocket science, its simple logic.
@JD: you do realize that most of brazil can actually read and write and therefore majority of public can use e voting system.
Pakistan could learn a lot from Brazil that has been using electronic voting system for more than a decade.

apparently PTI has already lost one seat in NA - 68 vehari on a recount to PMLN's candidate. That contest was also very close, and thus the recount. Although that news isnt being widely reported so don't know what to make of it just yet.

@Breaking Bad: Well, one reason could be this is a difference of just 2000 votes. In NA122 what is it? 10 or 20,000? How many ballot boxes would have to be disappeared to cause a loss by 20,000 votes?

So ECP has ignored the constant accusations by PTI of rigging (despite media evidence), but decides to accept PML-N recounts?

Since ECP thinks there is not enough evidence of rigging to re-count NA122 there must be a real good evidence for this re-count.
