The chief justice of the Lahore High Court on Thursday overruled the registrar’s objection to a petition challenging the appointment of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority chairman.
The registrar’s office had objected that the petition was not maintainable because the matter was not in the territorial jurisdiction of the Lahore High Court. It advised the petitioner to move the Islamabad High Court, but on the petitioner’s request, put the matter before the chief justice as an objection case.
The chief justice took up the matter on Thursday and removed the objection. He directed the registrar to put the petition before an appropriate bench.
A citizen, Shafqat Jamal Ranjha, had filed the petition submitting that Rashid Hameed was appointed chairman of Pemra in violation of merit and the Pemra Ordinance.
