Former President General (retd) Pervez Musharraf has decided to launch a ‘peoples’ movement in order to clear his name and stay politically relevant as Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz comes to power next week.
The movement called Tehreek-e-Muhibban-e-Pervez Musharraf (TMPM) will fight against political victimisation of Musharraf and his supporters, and will make efforts to get the former army chief released from ‘jail’.
All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) leaders told The Express Tribune on Wednesday that the decision was taken last week when party chief Musharraf boycotted the May 11 polls.
“We launched TMPM to have our leader quickly released from jail,” said Shakil Qureshi, central president of this movement. The peaceful endeavour is to get Musharraf’s name cleared from all the politically motivated cases being heard against him in courts of the country, he added.
Around 480 APML ticket holders will run this peaceful ‘people’ movement, and some retired senior military men also support the campaign, said Qureshi.
He claimed that Musharraf will be released by May 28. He also said that General Musharraf will stay in Pakistan after getting released from the ‘sub-jail’—his farmhouse in Islamabad.
APML leaders were to meet Wednesday night to discuss future approach after their meeting with Musharraf, he added.
‘TMPM a message to PML-N’
Political observers also believe that the purpose of such a movement at this time is to send out a message to the newly elected government of PML-N not to drag on Musharraf’s cases. By launching such movement, senior political analyst Raza Rumi said that Musharraf is trying to stay politically relevant in a situation where all the odds are being stacked against him. “This (TMPM) is yet another attempt to ensure that there are some laws for Musharraf also in a country where his arch rival—Nawaz Sharif is to rule as prime minister.”
Rumi was of the view that the greatest dilemma PML-N faces for its incoming government is whether to prosecute Musharraf. “If PML-N goes ahead with Musharraf’s trial it runs the risk of enraging Pakistan’s powerful military establishment. If not, then it loses the moral high ground it has maintained for a decade,” he told The Express Tribune.
A middle path may be followed for an amicable civil military relation, he added.

musharraf is great leader v love pervez musharraf .pakistan fast.
Our great President Musharraf should never have come back; this country does not deserve him. We thrived in his tenure, and look at what happened after him. All the cases are so fabricated it would atcually be hilarious if it wasn't so serious. If only there was something we commoners could do for him; but all the cards are with the judiciary and politicians who're against him.
I demand the release of Musharraf ASAP. All the cases filed against him are false and have no weight and substance.
Detention of judges-its an administrative thing which a Prime Minister is responsible for that. It cannot blamed Musharraf.
BB murder case-how can Musharraf be responsible, he let her come to participate in he election. If someone can prove that Musharraf shoot BB which is highly unlikely so there is no case against Musharraf.
Bugti murder case-common any sensible person can think Musharraf has ordered to kill him. What Musharraf is going to benefit for doing that. In Pakistan there are so many like Bugti who are making trouble for the administration.
Nov 03 emergency. Musharraf did this in the best interest of the country. Case closed.
After looking the cases deeply, the people court comes to this conclusion that all cases are concocted and no substance. The people's court of awaam released Musharraf from these cases with respect and dignity. This people's court also ordered to do some chitrol to the petitioners, so in future nobody file bogus cases and waste time of the court.
Great decision APML. We are with you Musharraf.
I am a retired Air Force officer who fought in both wars with India. I support for noble cause of Musharraf's release.
We were ungrateful as a nation and lost a great leader such as Musharraf; all the allegations against him are polotically motivated and I do hope and pray that justice prevails. I thank and salute Mr.Musharraf for having the courage to come back to the country despite all odds!!!! That shows strength of character, which has become scarce amongst our leaders.
Pervez Musharraf has always been an honest and genuine leader. The media has played a major role in maligning him, which is an absolute shame. Our people barely do any research and already have created a biased point of view against Pervez Musharraf. It bothers me how so many people ignore his on record achievements.
A genuine and true leader,he has been in a sub-jail for cases that have not even been proven. The world is seeing this entire biased drama, the fools and the literate illiterates are enjoying all that is happening;while the sincere, wise and TRULY educated are disgusted with the bias of the judiciary and the media. My advice to anyone would be look in to the real facts of Pervez Musharraf and think carefully before making a negative opinion about him.
The man has always been honest and is a true visionary. His many achievements are already in Pakistan today, which many Pakistanis take advantage of without giving him the credit that he genuinely deserves.
God bless Pakistan and Pervez Musharraf.
He did his best to save the country in a very difficult time when people were talking about what is going to happen to Pakistan. He founded the rules for democracy being a miltry man so that no an individual can stop parliment in completing 5 year which he said when he was president. He predicted about future energy crisis if we do not take any action. We all are human but his intention was just to save Pakistan and help those all Pakistani who like peace and no war, who like progress and he set comparitively a fair election in 2008 where no doubt the ruler party was defeated. We have some problems in inheritance like if you are police officer or any other great officer you are at the hands of politicians, some times even for such a job. For a post of Judge or police officer or any other great officer the right candidate should not need any support from politicians and should not be any risk from any politician or ruler to contniue their rules because their impartiality is very very important for their right decisions and rules of Law. In Uk a police officer can investigate any allegation against a minister and judges have a great respect and they can send ministers in prison for a little corruption.
he is a Man, a Man of his Words. People of Pakistan Please Respect and Stand in his Favour of him. he Deserve for Good. What Ever he Done Whether it Was Good or Bad he Did it for Pakistan. And every thing was Working good for Pakistan. If musharaf want to take Revenge he will Not let Nawaz and bibi to Come in pakistan atleast before elections. He give permisson every body to come and participate in election so the people of pakistan can decide. So i Decide today there is none better Politician then Musharaf. I Salute u Sir . . .
Musharff was excellent president in the history of pakistan, he made much more progress in the country, before this my grand father once told me that the era of general Ayoub was very progressive for the Pakistan .The matter is Army government always gives relief to a common man while democracy always are not competent and could not give relive to common man
It is a good time to form this TMPM (Tehreek-e-Muhibban-e-Pervaiz Musharraf. This organization should be formed globally in a short time and organize to struggle for APML Leader, not only in the country, but at international level. Musharraf's freedom is an inevitable for the well being of people of Pakistan. All the workers have to manage this organized struggle immediately. I think any body who is a patriot of Pakistan must come forward to play a role in this struggle. During Musharraf era, Pakistan was progressing in all aspects of life. Economically, Pakistan was very stable. Educationally, Pakistan has advanced the science and educational institutions. In foreign relations, Pakistan gained lots of respect and played a major role in resolving global issues. Infrastructure in the country was a milestone of development in Pakistan during Musharraf's era. It is an obligation of all true Pakistanis to give a true respect to the hero of Pakistan.
i m with sir mushraf whatever he decides... if he will call for hunger strikees or protest i will be the 1st from karachi to came on road...
Mushy all the way!! wish him all the best
It is not the time for revenge. It is the time to go ahead with forming Govt.Great leader Pervez Musharraf should be free from jail after all he came back to Pakistan knowing cases against him. He is honest.
I foresee nothing is gonna happened to Musharraf, one valid point is that, if Nawaz drags him for article 6 then, it will open a new Pandora Box and nobody wants it to be the part of it specially at this point of time when the new Government has lots of other challenges cant afford to get involved where the path would take them nowhere or the dark end of their victory..
wish all the success to TMPM,,please advise how overseas Pakistani's can help.PAKISTAN FIRST.MUSHARRAF ZINDABAD.
The social media is full of Musharraf support. I think Musharraf should be released quickly with all dignity and respect. Whatever he did, did as a President of Pakistan. Of course tough decisions like Lal Majid and Akbar Bugti are not popular decisions but these are decisions in favour of the country. So, all allegations against him are political - far away from reality.
Pakistan prospered during Musharraf era. I do not think anyone in PMLN has sense regarding economy side, which means Pakistan shall be ready to withness more blunders during next five years.
Musharraf's party APML has won seats from Chitral and his supporters are now on the move to launch a drive for him. Social media is full of his support. It seems a lot of support for him exist in the country due to his extensive role in the past for making Pakistan progressive and enlightened. Above all he loved for his non-corrupt track record. There is not even a smallest corruption charge on him, rather all cases are just politically motivated. In BB murder case the people who were responsible for her personal security like Rehman Malik should be investigated. Musharraf gave her full security with bullet/bomb proof car. Who told her to come out of car should be punished. In Lal Masjid, the commission report has already revealed that there were weapons and suicide bombers. There were not children and women killed. Everybody had been given an option to surrender. Molona too took the advantage and tried to escape wearing burqa. Akber Bugti was fighting against Paksitan Army and state. He should have been treated like an enemy and he met his fate. Musharraf's cope was validated by CJ and he had been given go ahead to rule for three years. Moreover, he hasn't got the moral ground to remain as CJ as he took oath under PCO. All such past cases must be considered while making any verdict against Musharraf.

This is the whole point of Nawaz Sharif wanting to get another term. He will do it at any cost even if there is a risk of destabilization in the country,
Excellent initiative TMPM. Musharraf is the greatest leader of Pakistan and his supporters are also greatest. We must not forget the contribution of Musharraf to the country in terms of economic stability, law and order, International relations, strength of our army, etc. He was a great responder all the enemies of Pakistan. India had always been reluctant of dealing with him, rather they didn't give him visa afterwards. He is a true lover of Pakistan with a lion heart, who returned to country to face all the hardships, however neither a single case against him has any value. I salute Pakistan Army who produces such brave and patriotic countrymen.
It is amazing that the people of Pakistan have forgotten that Musharraf's era was the most economically prosperous time for the country in living memory; our currency appreciated, highest amount of foreign direct investments came in, banking boomed and overseas Pakistanis actually started returning back.
I wish him the very best and am all for his support!!!
I think Musharaff is kept in custody to save him from TTP threats. He should be given a visa to go to Dubai and look after his business there.
PML-N, will not, should not, and will never try Musharraf.. there is a great risk involved scuffle between army and civil administration and may be Nawaz Sharief will loose international and national credibility by taking revenge. I personally believe Nawaz will not do this.
What Nawaz Sharief has to do.... is stay out of the cases against Musharraf.. even if he is forced to take action against Musharraf, he should not press the judiciary or police to escalate the charges against Musharraf.
Another factor involved in this whole issue is Saudi Arabia... they won't let Nawaz Sharief to do sever action against Musharraf.. after all they have accorded highest civil Saudi award to Musharraf.
Lastly, I really wish best of Luck to TMPM, I believe that Musharraf is one fine Pakistan and a great leader.. he can and will certainly contribute a lot to Pakistan and it's people.
I think Musharraf will become very relevant to the politics of the contry once all false allegations against him gets disprooved. I DONT THINK HE WILL LEAVE COUNTRY .HECAMEHISOWN ANDSHOULD HELP THE COUNTRY .PEOPLE SHOULD COME OUT IN LLARGE NUMBERS TO SUPPORT HIM ON HIS RELEASE
