Tragic mishap: Accidental police fire claims life

MADYAN: A 10th grade student was killed when a police officer accidently discharged his weapon in Madyan on Wednesday.

According to the Madyan police station, a police constable posted in the FA, FSc examination hall at Government Higher Secondary School was on duty when he accidently discharged his weapon.

As a result, Mohammad Farooq, a resident of Koz Kaley, sustained injuries while playing in the school’s playground. “The wounded student was shifted to a local hospital where he could not be treated properly,” said Shah Hussain, a local shopkeeper. Hussain added the victim succumbed to his injuries while being moved to Saidu Sharif Teaching hospital.



After the incident, traders and shopkeepers in Madyan Bazaar closed their shops and businesses and took to the streets in protest. They demanded immediate action be taken against the culprit.

“Seeing that the protest was getting more intense, DSP Madyan Naveed Khan reached the site and assured demonstrators the offender had already been arrested under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code,” said Zarif Khan, a local. “The DSP also claimed legal action had been initiated against the accused officer.”

After assurance from the DSP, the protesters ended their demonstration and dispersed peacefully. According to locals, the deceased belonged to a poor family and used to go to a workshop after school to earn money. He was the eldest of three brothers.
