Malakand ‘clean-up’: Hundreds of criminals arrested, weapons seized

Several successful raids were conducted on criminal and drug mafia hideouts.

The Malakand division police is said to have arrested 407 criminals, including 110 outlaws, and seized weapons and drugs in a special campaign.


A press release issued by Saidu Sharif DIG Police on Wednesday stated the campaign was launched in Swat, Dir, Buner, Shangla and Chitral. Several successful raids were conducted on criminal and drug mafia hideouts.

The recovered ammunition included 74 submachine guns, 230 pistols, 131 other illegal weapons, 58,743 rounds of ammunition and explosive material.  The police also confiscated large quantities of hashish, heroin and wine.

The statement also touched on the completion of elections in a peaceful manner. “It is encouraging that the law and order situation in Malakand division is getting back to normal while criminal activities have been controlled to a great extent – the credit of which goes to the police.”
