ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Kabaddi Federation (PKF) will hold a joint-training camp for this November’s Asian Games following in the footsteps of the Pakistan Boxing Federation.

PKF secretary Mohammad Sarwar said a 21-member Iranian contingent will arrive today for the camp that starts at the Liaquat Gymnasium, Pakistan Sports Complex.

“Iran will come with 14 players and seven officials for the Asian Games preparations. The camp will continue till October 4,” Sarwar told The Express Tribune.

However, Sarwar said that he would not field the team’s top players in the camp to avoid exchanging strategies.

“Pakistan is the number two team in the world. The number of officials coming from Iran means they want to learn from our players, which we want to avoid. It may trouble us when we play against Iran in the Asian Games.”

Meanwhile, Sarwar added that the camp still holds immense value to the other players as Pakistan target a gold medal. “Iran is also a good side. Training with them will be a good experience for our young players.

“India remains our biggest threat but we are hopeful of clinching a gold medal because we are working hard for it.”
