Talking to The Express Tribune, some of the employees said about 3,200 employees belonging to various departments performed their duties at 1,600 polling stations. They were hired for three days and promised Rs700 a day. They said the accountants at the Police Lines scolded them when they demanded their remuneration.
They said they had been visiting the accountants’ office for four days. They said if they were not paid soon, they would stage protest demonstrations with the support of their office unions.
The city police officer’s spokesman said the department had handed over payments to team heads a day after the elections.
