BANNU:

A terrorist attack was thwarted on Monday after the bomb disposal squad (BDS) defused a high-intensity explosive device planted by a roadside in Bannu.

Saddar police official Gul Nawaz said at around 9:45am, an informant told them he had spotted a suspicious sack placed by a roadside in Kotka Khan Sherin on the outskirts of the city. The police, and BDS official Wasal Khan rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area.

On searching the sack, a pressure cooker was found connected to a water cooler full of explosives, Wasal said. More BDS officials were called in and the bomb was defused after officials worked on it for an hour, he said. Around 45 kilogrammes of explosive material was used along with shrapnel.  “It would have been devastating if the bomb would have detonated.”

Following this, Gul Nawaz said a search operation was launched in the area, but no arrests have been made as yet.
