Between 300 and 400 protesters attempted to block the main thoroughfare in Karachi, the 22 kilometer long Shahrah-e-Faisal, as they staged a protest demanding re-elections in the entire city of Karachi.
Police and Rangers personnel were deployed in heavy force to disperse the crowd, armed with tear gas. PTI candidate for NA-250, Dr Arif Alvi was trying to communicate with them, insisting that they were exercising their constitutional right to a peaceful public gathering.
Earlier on Monday, Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure was imposed in Karachi, which prohibits a gathering of more than four people at one place for rallies or protests.
Hundreds of activists also took to the streets on Sunday at Teen Talwar, protesting alleged rigging on Election Day. A majority of them held the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) responsible.

They can protest in a park or in a ground, just not on a main street and block the traffic. There is no reason to block the traffic on a city's main artry.
Please use relevant pictures atleast. using some other picture for some other event. this is not the picture of the protest of 13th may. kindly use 13th's may pictures for 13th may purposes. it can be clearly seen that it isnt shara-e-faisal,instead it is 3 talwar. kindly use appropriate pictures
PTI stop making excuses. Accept Defeat from LHR plus KHI for Pakistan's Sake.... Its an appeal.
We will block Karachi and Lahore won't let anybody go to work tomorrow.
Just attended the SF dharna, crowd is in thousands and spirits are tremendous, doesnt look like they are going anywhere untill re election
@Muhammad: reply to this please
On the authority of Abu Sa’id al-Khudri, radiyallahu ‘anhu, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam, say: “When any one of you sees anything that is disapproved (of by Allah), let him change it with his hand. If he is not able to do so, then let him change it with his tongue. And if he is not able to do so, then let him change it with his heart, though that is the weakest (kind of) faith.” [Muslim]
Trusting in Allah does not only mean praying to Allah for Allah won't drop something from the skies. Islam also asks us to try our best AND then leave the rest to Allah. You need to consult a proper knowledgeable person on these matters.
@Muhammad: OMG. Madkhalis coming to Pakistan!
@Tahir Khan:
Re-election under Punjabi Army who are also the patron of PTI, one of the Takht-e-Lahore parties? Figures.
@Muhammad. Dear Muhammad, I think your interpretation may not be entirely correct. If we accept what you are saying then Imam Hussain (may Allah be pleased with him) should not have risen against Yazid. His lesson was not to obey tyranny and oppression. And that's what Islam is about. So accepting the tyrants as your leader might be against the teachings of Islam. How long can we do it?
Regards,
PTI should approach ECP if it has incriminating evidence. Otherwise, they should go home and allow us to live peacefully.
When MQM does protests in Karachi, it is democratic and their right. City gets shut down and many people suffer. But Govt dont take any action but when any other party does exercise their democratic right to register their protest, it is termed all wrong and 144 is in place to curb their right to protest. Instead of using force against protesters, try to catch those rigged elections.
Re-election in entire Karachi. under army supervision. The demand is plain and simple
Very well done PTI supporters. You make us overseas Pakistanis proud for standing up against the tyranny of terrorism.
Please update. There r a few thousand protestors now.
i was there from 630 till 9 p.m. Not hundreds of people! THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE! it is a peaceful protest. And KARACHI will continue to protest with the rest of PAKISTAN on the topic of RIGGING elections!
@Muhammad: It is a peaceful protest and in line with Quranic teachings.
@Muhammad: this is not comedy time
shameful to impose 144 just to supress peaceful protestors. JUST SHAME!
A peaceful protest is an act against the law? Wow!
Bravo to all who dare stand up against tyrants. Keep up the good work, they will tell you to grow up to accept the defeat... oh its only 1. 2, 3 or 4 seats... what will that change.
It not about 1, 2, 3 or 4 .. Its about right and wrong, the sooner Paksitanis understand that the better.
If you sit down, next time around dhaandli will be 100 fold and do you really think these thugs will let you go even if you decided to.
Stick in their til demands are met. Our prayers for your safety.
This article is a gross misrepresentation. Shame on E.T.
There are THOUSANDS in SF right now.
I would request too All Pakistanis in general and to PTI supporters in particular to judge thier acts in light of Quranic teachings:
Surah Al-Nisa:
59 - Indeed, Allah commands you to render trusts to whom they are due and when you judge between people to judge with justice. Excellent is that which Allah instructs you. Indeed, Allah is ever Hearing and Seeing.
60- O you who have believed, obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those in authority among you. And if you disagree over anything, refer it to Allah and the Messenger, if you should believe in Allah and the Last Day. That is the best [way] and best in result.
and
80- What comes to you of good is from Allah , but what comes to you of evil, [O man], is from yourself.
So please, If you have returned the "trust" (vote) to whom they are due but you disagree (or don’t like or didn't vote) with those who have come into authority then please refer your case to Allah, there is no provision and no Ifs and Buts here that if the elections were unfair or rigged then come on streets and disobey the authority. So please obey authority and turn to your lord, Allah and seek his blessings and justice from him.
and remember in verse 80 , Allah says very clearly, what comes good to you is from Allah but what comes to you of evil is from yourself...think and think again and act.
Please do not coem to streets and do not talk of breakup.
This is exactly how revolutions in Egypt and Libya started! We have risen, use of force will make things worse for the status quo!
How unfortunate a peaceful, law abiding party like the PTI appears to have been disenfranchised...
The bottom line is, if Imran says there were irregularities, it carries a lot of weight and people will trust him...
Very few will have confidence if others, especially the old faces, say polls were fair...
ECP should take clear and decisive and visibly impartial steps to address these concerns...and it should take these steps immediately....
Otherwise in the eyes of millions the Nawaz government will be no different from the Musharraf's Government
The did not have lathi charge against them unlike in Lahore. Aren't they lucky.
Law against democracy. Withdraw section 144 imposition.
it takes guts to be there if you know what i mean....salute you all
