JI withdraws strike call

JI leaders feel the city had already been closed for past two days and further strikes would worsen the situation.

KARACHI:

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has withdrawn its appeal to hold a strike in Karachi on Monday.

The party announced that a peaceful ‘black day’ will be observed to condemn the rigging of elections in Karachi. The party’s leadership met on Saturday to review the situation.

They felt that the city had already been closed for the past two days and further strikes would worsen the situation.

“The party has decided to hold peaceful protests across the city against the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, which has hijacked the peoples mandate,” said the party’s Karachi chief, Muhammad Hussain Mahenti. JI announced on Saturday its boycott of Karachi and Hyderabad polls.

Navaid | 11 years ago | Reply This is getting very old now. The JI for some odd reason thinks it has support in Karachi, for I don't know why. Only 200-300 people show up at their rally's. The new generation in Karachi doesn't even know who or what the JI stands for. Instead of making ridiculously false claims against the overwhelmingly popular MQM, they should focus on preaching the true face of Islam, and condemning Islam's number one enemy, the Taliban.
