Addressing the press after the announcement of results, Qureshi said his party will take into account all the rigging allegations that have been made and then decide upon forwarding a collective complaint to the ECP.
Qureshi has lost from three of the four national assembly constituencies he was contesting. He lost his hometown seat to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Abdul Ghafar Dogar which has further put him in a negative light in front of his supporters.
He said all independent candidates would do well to join PTI since his party has proved it can be the icon of change by its consistent policies and ideologies.
We plan on being the toughest and most disciplined opposition in the history of Pakistan, he added.
Correction: An earlier version of the story, quoting unofficial results said Qureshi had lost NA-150 Multan-III, but official results later revealed that he had won the seat.

@Sunoo Na Sunoo: I wish every Pakistani the very best and hope that the problems of the people will go away.
He won from NA 150 by some Margin of 13K votes,NA 230 oficial result hasnt been declared cause ballots of 39 polling stations were snatched by PPP workers....extension of polling time indeed did well for PMN just cause of our hyper n v urgent media....Geo Tv started showing results of different polling stations from 5pm-6pm in a manner that PMLN is winning, polling had ended on most of the polling stations even before 5 pm,It made PO which are part of local administration to do massive rigging in favour of PMLN.....that 100% plus turnout at polling stations was cause of that in many constituencies in Punjab.hope u guys understand now...n remembr it was him who brought new life in PTI after joinning it...
@winston: Your comment is irrelevant to my comment.
@Sunoo Na Sunoo: Wait and see who is the loser. Sharifs will sure win by taking billions out of the country, we the people will be the loser!
Was it really imaginative to spread your energy thin by fighting on four seats? Would it not have made a better strategy to concentrate on maybe two and let two other candidates fight for the other two? That way, PTI might have won at least one more seat? I admired your guts but are you really wise and intelligent? I believe you will make a better fighter than a strategist. So inspire (but be careful if you must guide.)
Shah Mehmood won NA 150. You start to question the authenticity of the reporting by Tribune.
Both Asad Umar and Imran made very graceful statements. But this pir who felt entitled to a seat cannot believe tha Naya Pakistan that rejected him. The Naya Pakistan which is undergoing birth pangs with a 60% voting turnout and where many waderas lost their seats. And which to some extent Imran has helped shape - without being n power. The 2 Gilani boys also lost but you don't hear such drivel from them. Shame on this guy.
@chengez - Imran was far more outspoken about his policy differences with US and has expressed them from the roof top but unlike Qureishi he did not have the ignominy of losing every single seat he contested. In fact that party he leads will head a provincial government. While this maybe less than he hoped, it is still quite creditable. So your logic simply does not hold.
I have never been involved in news and politics to this extent my entire life... My head is spinning..... My eyes are rolling so of SMQ...
SEND HIM BACK TO PPPP. HE DOES NOT MAKE SENSE ANYMORE
Congrats to Mian Sahb once again. But i a person who has failed several times in the past what laurels will he bring again to this nation ? ? Anyways ways, people wanted him , now suffer. Mian Sahb sholudnt lie to the nation about Nuclear Explosions. Pak Nuclear Program was the brian child of Zulfiqar Bhutto and later on executed by the Pak Army in 1999. Mian Sahb was infact reluctant to carry out the explosions. Under the pressure of army he did and now saying i did. . Dont lie Mian Sahb. Well all know you well. . Get ready for Asghar Khan case now . . . .
Looser always give unauthenticated justifications. It is of no use of crying over split milk rather SMQ should home on assisting IK (being an experienced leader) to make a strong opposition. So far PTI has emerged as one of the most progressed party in the short span of time. Well done PTI.
For ET's information, SMQ won his NA 150 Multan seat.
Qureshi has lost from all four national assembly constituencies he was contesting????? ET are u sure??. I think he won from NA 150 Multan.
SMQ won at least 3 out of 4 NA seats he was contesting....... Lazy journalism. PTI will do good in opposition and Good Luck to PML-N in getting our country back in order. PTI Supporter!
In defeat defiance (in Punjab and Karachi.) Fine. But PTI also won heavily in KP and although defeated, did well in Punjab, so be magnanimous. Remember: "in defeat defiance, in victory, magnanimity."
And i heard IK was the first person to appeal for one hour extension.
@Sunoo Na Sunoo: A great comment: I fully agree. When a politician is afraid of the electorate being able to vote, it shows he/show is not a democrat but a dictator/opportunist. Shame on him. I am glad the great people of Multan and Pakistan punished him. He and his ilk that PTI accepted in its fold are the reason PTI failed in its quest for power. Siddique Malik, Louisville, Kentucky, USA.
@RHS: How do you know he is the most intelligent among of the PTI leaders? Intelligent people are not sore losers. He is an opportunist who switches party anytime he smells power. The people have punished him for this lust for power. Now he is pretending he is some kind of scholar who can tell independents what to do. Siddique Malik, Louisville, Kentucky, USA.
He won NA-150
The people have taught a lesson to candidates who were towing the establishment line. He back-stabbed the PPP to get into the good books of the powers that be. Serves him right. At least someone who thought it was his birthright to get elected has been brought down to earth by the people. It could have been understood if he lost one of his seats. But losing from all four clearly shows how the public view such people and the role that they have played in undermining democracy in Pakistan. Such people have no role in a democracy.
Bhutto said about American power....Elephants has long ears.....
Shah Mehmood Qureshi must be remembering those immortal words....his stance on Raymond Davis has cost him his political career!!!
He was surely competent enough to be elected....
Shah Mehmood Qureshi accept defeat with some dignity ie if you have any, making rubbish statements
Iam v disappointed that PTI lost. People dont deserve imran Khan
Glad this gentleman lost. Now PTI should really kick him out because having such feudal figures with a history of colluding with corrupt parties only brings disrepute to them. IK's message of 'Naya Pakistan' was always more credible with fresh new faces.
PTI lost several seats by small margins. If only SMQ would have kept his big mouth shut at the armed attack and kidnapping of Gilani kid. Thanks to Hashmi who came out with a sensible statment representing Pakistani values. If Hashmi would not have done that damage control SMQ whould have been in greater trouble. SMQ can best serve himself and PTI is to keep his mouth shut. By IK not in the picture, SMQ cannot help mouthing off and damaging his party with sour grapes. Learn from ANP who is decimated by showing dignity and acceptance of people's mandate. Grow up, but some Pir and feudal never do.
One of the most intelligent people in PTI loses from all four seats he ran in. A true reflection on Pakistani voters (they don't like to vote for intelligent people). On the other hand the bad omen of leaving the PPP continues....
When he left PPP, he was offered by Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif to join PML(N), but he opted to join PTI.
That was his sole and personal decision.
There were number of other PPP candidates who joined PML(N) and today they have won the election.
Now it is too late to think about this.
From Foreign Minister of Pakistan in the PPP Government, today he is standing no where.
Imran Khan conceded defeat magnanimously and he got appreciation for it. Now, please do not make statements like a sore loser as it damages the image of PTI. Further: Excuse me, Sir. Do you know what you are implying? You are, in effect, saying, that the greater the participation of the electorate, the greater would have been the defeat of PTI. PTI has done tremendously well. Please do not distract from its wonderful performance.
A person who has been totally rejected by the people of not one not two but four constituencies has the rile to say "He said all independent candidates would do well to join PTI since his party has proved it can be the icon of change by its consistent policies and ideologies." Sir how have you proved and what have you proved any thing. Ravings of a ...... man
I am a supporter of PTI, Mr Qureshi, but I do not understand HOW extending the deadline of polling led to PTI defeat. HOW? What is the logic behind this statement? Extending the deadline for polling was essentially an effort to allow more people to vote. The move made by the ECP made sure that everyone at the polling stations had the chance to cast their vote. As you are aware that logistical problems were seen at several polling stations, especially in Karachi, due to which polling could not take place on time. In other places, some people tried to rig polling in a way that it took very long to cast a single vote (like 20 minutes) so that in a space of 9 hours only few voters could cast their votes. This was done by deliberately creating confusion and mismanagement at the polling stations. Increasing the time only allowed hundreds of voters standing in lines outside the polling stations to cast their votes, regardless of how long it took to cast a single vote.
What, then, is the logic of your idiotic statement?
Don't be a sore loser!
as far as i can remeber PTI was one of the party asking for polling time to be extended!!!!
