The votes are still being counted, but the results are in: the elections were a huge success for Pakistan, with a record voter turnout reported.

The young and the old, rich and poor, men and women, from villages to urban centres, people lined up to select their leaders. The contest in the Punjab was largely between the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, and supporters of both parties made it a memorable day. Here are some images of the day.
