Iran incapable of making nuclear weapons: Gates

Agencies April 11, 2010

WASHINGTON: US Defense Secretary Robert Gates said that Iran is not yet able to make a nuclear weapon, and that its program was progressing slower than Tehran expected.

In an interview to NBC, Gates said that although Iran is continuing to make progress in its nuclear program, it is not nuclear capable.

The Pentagon chief also denied that the US administration is resigned to Iran becoming a nuclear-armed power.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who appeared along with Gates, argued that Washington's patience had helped build international support for sanctions against Iran.
