LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Tuesday issued a notice to the Law Secretary to reply on a petition challenging the appointment of some law officers at the Punjab Advocate General’s Office by the caretaker government. The petitioner’s counsel submitted that the government had removed 20 law officers on May 3 and appointed 19 in their stead. He submitted the law department had removed them from service in violation of its mandate. He contended that Advocate General Shahid Karim and the caretaker law minister had earlier assured the high court that no law officers would be removed. The chief justice heard the initial arguments and issued a notice to the law secretary for May 9.
