Raising standards: WB, HEC join hands to improve college education

Under the Tertiary Education Support Programme (TESP) of the World Bank, the Higher Education Commission (HEC), the Federal Directorate of Education, provincial bureau of curriculum and affiliated universities have agreed to undertake collaborative steps to improve the standard of college education in Pakistan.       


While speaking at a meeting held here at the HEC, Executive Director Dr Mukhtar Ahmed said, “The HEC is working closely with provincial higher education departments to bring the college education at par with international standards.”

He added that the HEC was always ready to provide assistance to promote quality education at the college level and asked the provincial higher education departments and affiliated universities to develop a joint strategy to implement the project.

While talking about the TESP, HEC Academics DG Farmanullah Anjum said that the programme aimed at enhancing the standard of education at the college level.

The meeting was attended by HEC Secretary Farah Hamid, World Bank Coordinator Dr Parveen Shah, Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur Vice Chancellor Irtaza Ameer Naqvi, HEC Lahore Deputy Secretary Nasir Ansar, Sindh Colleges Director General Dr Muhammad Arif, University of Balochistan Quality Assurance Division Director Qasim Marwat, Dr Mujeeb Rehman of the University of Peshawar, and other HEC officials.
