Security operation: Militant commander arrested in Hangu

The official said 22 other suspects were also arrested in the raid on the commander’s compound.

In a pre-dawn raid on  Sunday, Hangu police arrested a militant commander wanted in multiple attacks on police and government installations. Islamdin, an official of the Saddar police, said heavy contingents of police raided a compound in Ashgharo Bhanda based on intelligence information. Militant commander Ahmad Ilyas, alias Bilal and a former member of Nabi Hanfi’s Taliban group was arrested.


The official said Bilal had left the Hanfi group and formed his own faction, adding he was involved in attacks on police vans, an attack on Saddar police station, extortion and other serious crimes.

The official said 22 other suspects were also arrested in the raid on the commander’s compound. Islamdin said the commander had been shifted to an undisclosed location for investigation.
