The award was given on Saturday night during an official dinner hosted by Punjab Squash Association, the organisers of the event.
Pakistan’s Nasir Iqbal was adjudged as the best junior player in Asia.
Achievements made under Gul
It is pertinent to mention that Pakistan has had immense success in Asian events in terms of results in 2012.
Under Gul’s supervision, Danish Atlas became the junior champion, while Ali Bokhari was the runner-up in the same event. In addition, Pakistan also went onto win the Asian junior team championship defeating India this year.
To Gul’s credit, the Asian senior team clinched the 2012 championship with Aamir Atlas’ win at the Asian Senior Individual Championship adding to the coach’s list of triumphs. The selection of Fahim has annoyed the Pakistani, who felt the official was chosen since the Asian Squash Federation (ASF) President David Mui is also from Hong Kong.
“I’m gutted that I’ve been receiving harsh treatment despite being the best in Asia,” Gul told The Express Tribune.
“In the last year, there are four titles to my credit but the ASF didn’t choose me. There needs to be a reason as Fahim has achieved very little compared to me.
“I will lodge a complaint against it and I hope that the ASF and Pakistan Squash Federation will take notice of the issue.”
