KARACHI:

The National Database Registration Authority (NADRA) was once again directed by the Sindh High Court to submit its reply with reference to allegedly blocking the national identity card of Qari Munir Ahmed, the Imam at Sultan Masjid of Defence Housing Authority.

SHC Chief Justice Mushir Alam repeated the direction as no replies were submitted despite similar directions on April 23. Qari Munir had gone to court against the interior ministry’s secretary and NADRA’s director-general for allegedly blocking his identity card. According to Qari Munir, he has been the Imam at Sultan Masjid for the last 26 years. He had applied for the renewal of his passport, which was expiring on July 2, 2010, but was told by officials that his CNIC was blocked.

When the judges took up the matter on Thursday, no comments had been filed by the authority. Issuing notice to NADRA’s law officer, the bench directed him to place his reply within two weeks on court’s record.
