A man police claimed was on the run after a kidnapping was killed in a shootout with the police on Friday.  Police said his two accomplices fled the scene. The kidnapped man was recovered.


Police said the man, identified as Abdul Sattar, was wanted in 70 murder and kidnapping cases. They said Sattar and his accomplices had kidnapped. Muhammad Azam from Rangpur village and had demanded Rs5 million ransom from his family. They had threatened to kill Azam if police were informed.

After the kidnapping was reported to the police, District Police Officer Sohail Zafar Chattha directed the city police to set up pickets in the Musafir Khana area, where police said, the kidnappers had fled to.

They said a police team stopped them in Habib Massan village. When they turned away, the police team chased them. As a motorcycle went down a speed-breaker, two of the men fell to the ground, his accomplices sped on leaving behind the bike, Sattar and Azam.

On seeing the police draw closer, Sattar shot at them. The police shot back, killing him on the spot. The motorcycle, a Kalashnikov rifle and several magazines were seized.
