Some members of Bughio clan kidnapped a woman of the Arain family to avenge a free-will marriage.
A resident of Jhando Bughio village had eloped with a man, Shahbaz Arain, earlier which sparked tension between the two families. A group of armed men from Bughio clan then raided the house of Shahbaz Arain, kidnapped his sister at gunpoint and fled.
After the incident, the girl’s father, Muhammad Hanif Arain, tried to register a complaint with the police station but they refused to do so. Several members of the Arain family gathered outside the police station and organised a sit-in. Ghotki SSP ordered the police to take action after which they registered an FIR against 15 members of Bughio clan, including Nazar Mohammad, Saifal, Ashfaq, Sobdar. The police have yet to make any arrests.
“It is impossible to stop free-will marriages,” complained a member of the Arain clan, Chaudhary Ashfaq Arain. “We strongly condemn Shahbaz Arain for not taking his family into confidence before deciding to elope,” he said, adding that it was wrong to punish his sister for his crimes.
