Public service: Minister calls for WASA reform

Ejaz says connections of Wasa defaulters should be ‘immediately disconnected.’

LAHORE: Minister for Industries and Housing Arif Ejaz has said that Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) needs to devise a comprehensive strategy to improve its collection system, said a press release from the Directorate General of Public Relations. The minister was speaking at a meeting on Wasa’s performance here on Wednesday. Ejaz said connections of Wasa defaulters should be ‘immediately disconnected.’ He said the Wasa needed to cooperate with Water and Power Development Authority to bring about improvement in its performance so as to provide relief to the public. Law Minister Shams Mahmood Mirza said Wasa needed to address concerns like overbilling, water theft and revenue generation. He said steps should also be taken to preserve energy. Chief Minister’s Advisor for Taxation Zia Rizvi, Finance, Housing and Excise Department secretaries, Wasa managing director, and other senior officers also attended the meeting.
