Shikhar Dhawan smashed a quickfire half-century as Sunrisers Hyderabad registered a comfortable seven-wicket win over Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Chasing 130, Dhawan showed the kind of form he displayed while destroying the Australia bowling attack during his 187-run knock in the third Test in Mohali earlier this year. He smashed nine fours and a six in his 55-ball unbeaten 73, as the home side sailed home comfortably with two overs to spare at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium at Uppal.

Hyderabad captain Kumar Sangakkara was ecstatic with his side’s performance.

“We planned and prepared well and then executed well,” he said, according to ESPNcricinfo. “Ishant [Sharma] set us up with his three-over spell. Shikhar was outstanding, the way he batted through. Winning at home was important and we’re happy to be doing that.”

Earlier, Ishant Sharma’s economical spell of two for 15 in his quota meant that Mumbai could only manage 129 for four, a score captain Rohit Sharma acknowledged was ‘not enough.’

“We didn’t have enough runs on the board,” said Sharma. “We were clearly 10 to 15 runs short. Their bowlers did a good job, bowled in great areas and restricted us well.”
