BATTAGRAM: Two girls drowned in Abaseen River in Rashing village when a portion of a makeshift wooden bridge fell on Wednesday. According to the locals, nine-year-old Bibi Razia, 10-year-old Bibi Shahida and 11-year-old Bibi Amina were attending a wedding in the village. They went to a market for shopping when, on their way back, part of the bridge they were crossing gave way and they fell in the water. Residents quickly dived to rescue the girls. Shahida was taken to Ayub Medical Complex in Abbottabad, while the body of Razia was recovered. Amina is still missing. Police said the bridge connecting Battagram and Rashing village had swept away during the floods of 2010 and the villagers had built a temporary bridge with wood and ropes. They have been using the wooden bridge to travel across for the last two and a half years.
