The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) health department has been told to prepare for any emergency on Election Day.
A press statement issued by the Home and Tribal Affairs Department on Wednesday requested the provincial secretary for health to consider the interior ministry’s proposal a priority so that any untoward incident on May 11 can be handled.
The ministry requested the health secretary to declare emergency in all district headquarters hospitals and teaching hospitals on May 11 and cancel the holidays of health officials.
The secretary has also been told to ensure the presence of health staff at Rural Health Centres (RHC) and Basic Health Units (BHU). These units shall be provided the basic tools to share the burden of major hospitals in case of emergencies, the statement read.
Ambulances equipped with medical cover and at least one medical technician should be parked at central locations.
The ministry also requested that at least one ambulance should be accessible through mobile service in sensitive areas.
The press release added that the presence of ambulances drivers be ensured.
