FAISALABAD: The close circuit cameras in the city’s most important areas, including D-Ground, are out of order, The Express Tribune has learnt. The Anjuman-i-Tajran Faisalabad and the Citizen Police Liaison Committee had contributed to install 16 CCTV cameras at Chowk Clock Tower and D-Ground areas. Of these, 11 are not working.

Muhammad Haroon, a police official appointed at the control room established for monitoring the CCTV cameras, told The Express Tribune that the cameras had been out of order since July 2012 after a notification issued for disbanding the Citizen Police Liaison Committee (CPLC).

He said that senior police officials had been repeatedly informed about the defective CCTV cameras, but the situation persist.

“We have to be on duty whether the cameras are working or not,” he added. Sub Inspector Ameer Nasir Javed, a police spokesman, said that City Police Officer Riffat Mukhtar Raja had taken notice of the defective CCTV cameras and issued orders for their repair in a week.
