FAISALABAD:

A court bailiff recovered four citizens from illegal detention at Bhaiwala police post on Tuesday.

Those recovered were identified as Mehboob Ahmed, Bashir, Basit and Shakil. They were presented before district and Sessions Judge Rasheed Qamar.

Bhaiwala post in charge Assistant Sub Inspector Qamar Zia was also produced before the court. He was told to explain why the four men had been detained.

Not satisfied by Zia’s explanation, the judge reprimanded him and observed that such policemen were damaging the reputation of the department.

The case was disposed of after the ASI tendered an apology. He was issued a warning.

The petition was filed by Bashir Ahmad, a resident of Chak 204-RB, who said that he and his friends had gone to Bhaiwala police post to file a motorcycle theft complaint. He said instead of registering the complaint, ASI Zia had confined his friends. He had them filed a petition seeking recovery of the detainees.

The judge had appointed a bailiff to raid the post and recover the four men. The judge had also summoned ASI Zia to appear before the court.
