ISLAMABAD: Chief Election Commissioner Fakhruddin G Ibrahim has announced on Monday some of the new measures it has taken to ensure the safety and transparency of the ballot, PTV reported.

He said that for the first time in Pakistan, a voters list with photographs would be introduced, that would include the same photograph of the voter as on his or her computerised national identity card.

“Another measure which has been adopted is a column for voters’ thumb impression,” he added.

He said that a separate box will be created in the ballot paper in which a voter can affix the stamp to express his dissatisfaction with all the candidates and the decision will be implemented through promulgation of an ordinance.

He explained that at least 3000 sensitive polling stations among 73000 will be particularly observed while four to five hundred polling stations would be monitored by the Commission via video.

He said ECP has issued the Code of Conduct for media for impartial and neutral coverage of the elections, and also assured foolproof security during the polls.
