KARACHI: At least two people were hurt when a low-intensity blast took place near Meteorological department, which is situated close to Safoora Chowrangi in Gulistan-e-Jauhar.

The blast took place in the early hours of Monday morning. Two passersby, Mohammad Hanif and Anwar, got hurt and were taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. A contingent of law enforcers scrambled to the site soon after the blast.

Officials from the Bomb Disposal Squad also arrived at the scene and collected the evidence from the site.  According to them, the bomb weighed around 30 grammes and locally produced explosive material was used.

There were reports that an improvised explosive device planted near high tension electricity wires had caused the blast. But Mobina Town SHO Jamal Leghari told The Express Tribune this was not the case. He added that unidentified men lobbed the small bomb near a paan shop in the locality.
