LAHORE:
Despite the approval of funds for a liver transplant unit at Shaikh Zayed Hospital 14 months ago, no funds have been released as yet, hospital officials said on Sunday. Former Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif inaugurated the transplant unit on February 25, 2012. He had said then the government would bear all the expenses of transplantations at the unit. However, despite the passage of a year, the unit is still being run on funds received from patients, sources said. Seven liver transplants have been performed at the unit so far.
