Defaulting measures: FESCO disconnects 229 govt department connections

‘Departments were issued several notices on arrears of over Rs25.85 million’.

FAISALABAD: The Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) has suspended 229 electricity supply connections of various government departments in Faisalabad, Jhang and Mianwali over arrears of more than Rs25.825 million.

FESCO spokesperson Tahir Sheikh told the media on Sunday Rs2.117 million was outstanding against the Iqbal Town TMA over which its 43 electricity connections had been disconnected. Four connections of Madina Town TMA were severed over nonpayment of Rs62,000.

Similarly, three connections of Punjab Police were severed for not paying Rs90,000, six connections of PHA for not paying Rs66,000, three connections of Jinnah Town TMA for not paying Rs30,000, one connection of WASA for not paying Rs6,900 and nine connections of other departments for not paying Rs173,000.

He said 36 electricity connections of the Livestock Department were severed over nonpayment of Rs2.458 million while eight electricity connections of Health Department were disconnected for default on payment of Rs179,000.

He said more than Rs133,000 was outstanding against the Police Department, Jhang, and its two electricity connections were severed, whereas three connections of WASA, Jhang, were disconnected over non-payment of Rs145,000, one connection of Education Department, Jhang, over non-payment of Rs145,000 and 24 connections of other departments in Jhang over non-payment of Rs151,500.

Likewise, two electricity connections of the Irrigation Department, Mianwali, were detached over nonpayment of Rs9.73 million, whereas 74 electricity connections of TMA, Essa Khel, were disconnected over nonpayment of Rs8.94 million.

The spokesperson said these departments were issued repeated notices but they failed to deposit FESCO dues.
