A memorial service for FE Chaudhry, the legendary photo-journalist, was held at the Sacred Heart Cathedral here on Saturday. “Chaudhry was truthful, simple and special,” said Father Andrew Nisari in his sermon.
Nisari said during the British era locals were not allowed to enter the Sacred Heart Cathedral. “It was only because of Chaudhry’s efforts that locals got access to it.”
He said, “We thank God for having him among us for all these years.” IA Rehman said Chaudhry believed in humanity. He said he had been fortunate to have been a junior colleague to Chaudhry for 60 years. He said Chaudhry was the father of news photography in Pakistan.
“I am happy that he was a part of my life,” Rehman said.
Khalid Butt said one of Chaudhry’s many accomplishments was that he covered stories from both sides of the border, even after the sub-continent had been partitioned.
“Grandpa was an encyclopaedia of history,” said his grandson Cecil. Shane said that his grandfather had never complained. Chacha was part of our surrounding since our childhood…He was committed and always looked very fresh,” remembered Philip Lall, a neighbour.
