Hamza, son of garment factory owner Talib Sohail Ahmed, went to the Khayaban-e-Sehar area to meet his schoolmate Shoaib to resolve the matter. Initial details suggest that Shoaib had been harassing Hamza's girlfriend.
The meeting between the two reportedly turned into a fight, over which Shoaib's guard opened fire and shot Hamza four times. Hamza died on the spot.
Shoaib and his guard, identified as Aman, fled the scene. The police are trying to trace the cell phones of the two.
The mobile phones of Hamza and the girl have also been confiscated for further investigations.
Hamza's family said that they know the killers but have not registered a case of the murder yet.
In a similar case, 20-year-old Shahzeb Khan, son of a police officer, was shot dead in his car in December last year in the Defence area. The incident caused uproar across the country, after which the chief justice took suo motu of the incident.
Shahrukh Jatoi, son of an influential businessman, along with his friends and a house worker, is being tried for murder in the case.
Soon after the incident, #JusticeForHamza started trending in Karachi on Twitter.
Following are some of the top tweets:
Why did that guard obey the orders of Shoaib & killed an innocent boy? This is what happens when state loses its authority. #JusticeForHamza

17yr old shot dead:dead are dreams of his parents, aspirations & dead are values of those who commit such crimes! #JusticeforHamza #Pakistan

Shahrukh Jatoi became a mindset for teenagers today, this is the greatest weapon of mass destrcution available #JusticeforHamza

Correction: An earlier version of the article mistakenly reported that Hamza was a student at Washington International School. The error is regretted.

Nothing will ever happen to these cold murderers as justice system in our beloved country has been plagued. There would be an uproar in the media and social circles for few months then the case would be filed under the carpet. What happened in Shazaib case which was to decided in a weeks time, but influential family is managing the case well and soon the culprits would be set free by the august and holy courts. Nothing will change eveeeeeeeeeeer.
In my humble opinion, rather than talking about real things we are crying over the same rhetorics of Islam versus western culture, which may not b correct. This incident is a very good example of lawlessness in pakistan. Neither the government is ready to establish writ of law nor the people of pakistan are worried about it. Everybody who has some money considers himself to be above the law (phanne khan). I fully agree that the matter should not have ended in a murder but see how one boy of a rich man calls his friend and then even seeing his guard still dares to slap him. By his age he may be considered asinnocent but can u say that his act was out of his innocence? God may save children of all but it is the duty of the parents to monitor the activities of their children. We have become habitual of blaming West for every bad thing but I can assure you all that all such Pakistani phanne khans become like a wet cat when they go abroad. First nobody dares carrying such guards and if at all they do something like that they can never escape the law. Alhamdolillah, I am a Muslim and a Pakistani but I have to say that such incidents are indicators of OUR NATIONAL CHARACTER and POOR MORAL VALUES AS A NATION. THIS IS ONE OF THE REASONS THAT SOMETIMES PAKISTANIS ABROAD FEEL ASHAMED OF BEING PAKISTANIS. We should all try to improve ourselves and our children and also pray Almighty to help us.
Seriously? Whatever happened to the days when such things were resolved with a few punches? Im shocked to read all this anti liberal chat here. Whats the relevance? But ok Yes, I'm 'liberal' so maybe i need to be shot too. Pakistan was built for Muslims to practice religion freely as they so wished. Not to be forced upon. I believe these were the Quaids ideals. Besides our religion is nothing if not kind and forgiving. How sad we have moved so far away from this.
A boy was killed for a girl.......boys be sensible....I remember a sentence from amir khan movie.."Never run after train , bus , girl..one goes other comes"...
This is Insane why children`s in our society are allowed to have body guards and if they do for some reasons, why there guards are so dumb to kill an UN-armed children what kind of guards are they. What kind of culture is this to carry guards around I must say they are the most frightened people of our country.
@Nadir: Are you in your senses ?
I think hamza is not gunned down by his friend's guard but also his friend may shoot him. In order to present his son from punishment, Shuaib's family may blaming and forcing his guard to accept murder
let me tell people living in fools paradise. bad things happen in every country around the world but those people are punished then. so that is the only reason that people before committing any crime get scared of the consequences they will face after honest and tough judiciary trial. if and only if our police and judiciary system gets going there will be less number of cases like this
this is not related to islam i live in saudia and things like this haooen here also but thanks to allah they have well established judiciary system and law and order are excellent due to their honest and devoted police.if we have to blame some one then blame on system for once the punishment is given to the criminals this kind of things will not happen to this much extent
Evey murder or killing an girl friend issue is not always brought to public.
in Thailand whatever paradise may be it is still not worth a praise.Disputes are always taking place at homes on roads ,in public among friends etc.The issue here is that whatever the dispute was law should not be taken in ones hands always matters should be discussed with elders, an a final decision be made ,in a friendly manner, in all cases not just this one.
The guard didn't "open fire". Shoaib ordered his guard to shoot him. He was hit with 4 bullets. May his soul rest in peace. Ameen.
This is ridiculous , how hard is it to punish the killers of Shahzeb. How hard is it to give them a death sentence, if that had already happened no guard would go around shooting innocent lives. We need a change a BIG one . One that makes you realise you are nothing in front of the law no matter who's son you are.
Actually others do get attention. It's just that logon ne phir bhi shor machana hota hai k iss ko kyun mili hai attention.
We are a judgmental qoum. We forget that here we are dealing with a loss of life.
Hum itne ziada beyhiss aur girchukay hain k I can bet in the next couple of days the 'gf' repu is going to be ripped apart, the boy who lost his life his repu is going to be ripped apart and jisne mara hai,we probably will have supporters for him.
Regardless of what the fight was about. A life was lost in vain. This is becoming such a norm in this country that it doesnt mean anything anymore. In the same city we lose a child every other minute...but that doesnt make this act right.
Haan what should be happening is that if the perhi likhi qoum highlights enough and manages to get the deserved justice then there is hope that the rest of us will get justice too.
Apne pairon per kulhari na maro. Shahzaib gets justice so will Hamza, so will Ali from Qayoumabad and Musarat from Hafizabad. Justice for one is justice for all.
Remember like almost 7 decades ago ek banday ne galthi se Unity, Faith and Discipline ki baat kerdi thi? Honor that.
mafia, its everywhere. its become inculcated into our system. there is no value for human life, people have stopped becoming god fearing. we have totally lost our morals. headed in no direction we are as a society. its sad but true.
The youth of today, role modelling the Hollywood Ho Ha of guns, gf bf culture, drugs, such incidents are bound to happen. 16 Years !
Dad hired a personal guard for his son from a private agency? I guess not. Probably the guard is being blamed for this. Wonder if there were any CCTV footage anywhere? If a son can be bold enough to carry arms, they should be treated as adult criminal.
@ Ali: 'Such feudal lords'???
Who said that that the culprits were FEUDALS?? Why must this feudal bashing start whenever such an unfortunate event takes place?
You're a hypocrite. You whine about how all muslims can't be terrorists yet for people like you, every murderer is a feudal. Criminals are just criminals. Nothing else. Plain and simple. Get that past the ignorance inside of you and do us all a favour.
If government will not look into such matters, similar incidents will occur in future more rapidly..... Here all the game is of wealth.... sons of rich families are not much in control of their parents, they are not properly guided by most parents.......!!
@Light: re. "to all the liberals bashing S… Islam and sharia laws are applicable in Saudia. Go figure how many murders or rape takes place there. You guys have nothing to defend here..even your arguments are not to the point."
Even assuming your 'facts' about S.Arabia are correct (which, actually, they're not!), are you sure you want a draconian system in place? S. Arabia is great if you're an Arab, male and rich. Or white and rich. For everyone else, it's quite horrible. There is a price to be paid for freedom, always. If you want to live in a place like S. Arabia, I suggest, North Korea, since they DO issue immigrant visas to Pakistani, unlike your Saudi Muslim brothers...
R.I.P Allah Make Hamza's Family Fight Against him! and may ALLAH protect them in peace. :'(
@anonymous:
Instead of sitting on your laptop's and criticizing and blaming Hamza, you ppl should pray for his departed soul. Secondly, Hamza is dead now he should be left alone, it doesn't matter if he was an innocent guy or not the fact here is that HE WAS THE ONE SHOT DEAD not Shoaib so please even if you are a friend or relative of Shoaib or if you have some personal grudge or whatever against Hamza please forgive him and dont blame him now because he is dead and because of such comments of yours he may have to bear pain up there. And no I dont know who he was, never even heard abt him before today but there is something known as humanity.
Inna Lillahe Wa Inna Ilaihe Rajeoon. RIP Hamza. Too much untaxed money, too little vigilance by the LEAs, little or no education in the guards, doing what is instructed like a faithful dog and then bolting away to hide in a dark bylane. The two absconders must be arrested at all costs. No mercy, nor delay. Justice delayed, is justice denied. Salams
Express Tribune: Y u no allow my comments? (the meme face that goes with it) :@
this is utter nonsense all these articles by tribune. shoaib never harrassed anybody he was just friends with hamzas girlfriend and hamza in typical fashion got angry becaue they used to talk. hamza wanted to fight and kept threatening shoaib telling him to meet him at latte lounge so shoaib went to resolve the matter. when things got heated hamza slapped him and the guard probably pointed the gun at hamza trying to intimidate him when that didnt work and hamza said "mar kar dikhao" the guard shot him. shoaib is innocent his guard is at fault. everyone need to look deeper into the situation rather then throw accusations and REPORT FALSE ARTICLES TRIBUNE!
@Nadir: What do you mean these events should happen only in civilian areas? DHA is thriving on civilians tax payers money.
They were both in different schools. Tribune has its facts wrong
@Light: Perfect reply my friend :-)
@S: This happened because of rich kids parents that what they have taught there kid ?? Intolerance!! and he harassed a girl but still it isnt a crime to his parents and ISLAM is a personal matter there should be no connection in religion and state
@ Saad: Having girlfriend is not an issue. You cannot kill anyone for any reason. Period. Set an example? by killing someone? Please get your head examined. However, I did previously say that I don't feel sorry for him because I know how these teenagers operate - to summarize in one word. "Bharam"
Oh boy. Girlfriends and Boyfriends - Love's Labor's Lost, indeed it is. Plus, mind you look into the unfair and unjust deaths of the thousands of people dying daily in Karachi? People who don't belong to posh localities, precisely.
You what is wrong with our society (apart from thousands of other things)? 9 killed in blast, and you see 18 comments in two days. This kid gets shot and you see 71 comments within an hour. Clearly, his life is more valuable and/or deemed worthy of discussion than those who die everyday in working class neighborhoods. All I'm trying to say, I would like to see media/social media going crazy for every murder that we hear about. Publish their pictures on front page. Let people know about them. Go on streets to protest as we did for Shahzaib. To be honest, contrary to Shahzaib, I don't even feel sorry for him. God forbid, I don't know him personally, but Com'on look at your age. Go to school, come back, do your homework, and go to bed. Girlfriend issues huh!...
@Saad: "I don’t feel sorry for the boy died, it was his mistake AND WANT OTHER TEENAGERS TO SEE THIS AS AN EXAMPLE and try to learn where we are heading with this culture of GF/BF. Girlfriends are not allowed in Islam in any way(or definition) before marriage"
Does Islam allow sisters? what about wives? What if the person harassed was not girlfriend but wife or sister? Murder is a murder and for you to justify it by saying someone deserved to die because he had a girlfriend is absolutely shocking.
@Shdy: It's not just about being married. At least being married means you are responsible and logical. These are little kids who are trying to solve their own issues without proper thought. They are heady and impulsive. This is WRONG western influence. They have the law, we just copy.
@Light:
Regarding your comment "Islam and sharia laws are applicable in Saudia. Go figure how many murders or rape takes place there. You guys have nothing to defend here..even your arguments are not to the point." as someone who has grown up in Saudi Arabia I can tell you that murders and rapes happen there as well, even with the implementation of Sharia law. Just because you don't hear about something it doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
It is a well-known fact that in the Middle East and Asia, rapes and murders are a woefully under-reported statistic. When it comes to rapes, more of often than not families are encouraged to brush things under the rug in order to avoid being labeled as social outcasts. When it comes to murders, cases are dropped, witnesses are paid off and/or intimidated, blood money is paid, once again distorting the statistics.
For you to explain this sort of mindless violence, that is the result of a sense feudalistic entitlement, as a consequence of a lack of Sharia law in Pakistan, is illogical. The real issue at stake here is the proliferation of arms to the public and complete lack of an effective judicial system in Pakistan. To justify the actions and consequences as result of being "unIslamic" is a crass and simple-minded approach. As many of the comments here have stated, if it had been a man protecting his wife or sister from harassment, would that have been any difference? An innocent life was taken because of the complete lack of accountability for the privileged in our country. Do not let the notions of the effectiveness of Sharia law distract you from that basic underlying fact.
Why do people only notice the "girlfriend" bit in this? What is wrong with everyone? A 16 year old boy was shot dead. I don't care what the reason for his murder was. I don't care if it was over his girlfriend. An innocent life was taken away all because of an elite spoiled child who ordered his guard to shoot. Everything does not have to be blamed on the female in the incident. I bet the girl didn't even know what was going on. The problem is not western norms in our society. Concentrate on the real problem here which is the elite mindset in our society. Actually, looking at these comments, I think the real problem is us. Everyone can get away with any crime because we are so bad an pinpointing the problem. In the case, instead of concentrating of the horrendous act of the guard, we are pointing fingers at the kid for having a girlfriend. We need to sort out our priorities, don't we?
Those who are saying that TTP or Sharia law would have created an environment to prevent this. WRONG! TTP is blasting every secular party's office and killing innocent people because they do not agree with TTP or its version of Islam. So does Sharia Law say that anyone who does not agree with another should be eliminated? Because that is exactly what TTP is doing and the same thing happened to Hamza.
Sad to hear that but what about the teenagers being killed in the non-upscale areas? Why aren't they given the same publicity in the electronic and print media?
i feel very sad for hamzas parents and ipray that parents should see where their children are heading towards
@Mahin: re. "Guns have no connection with a ‘westen culture’ just as guns have no connection with Islam. To equate such acts of violence to a religion is exactly what the world is doing when they presume all terrorists are Muslim."
Surely YOU see the irony in your statement? Oh wait... I suppose "the world" is not a generalization...
Sheesh!
@S: Islam would not have made any difference in this situation. Unless people are taught the value of another person's life, this problem will stay in Pakistan.
As A high school teacher of adolescents from so-called 'elite' schools, I could see incidents like this coming. Fedual culture persists in Pakistan, I'm afraid -- and at times even seems to spread to those outside the traditionally feudal set-up. It's a mindset. I guess it doesn't help that chaos reigns in the cities...
An aside... I think it's best if we wait for a proper investigation before assuming this was cold-blooded murder by the guard. Lots of kids have access to Daddy's guns these days.
Had Shaharukh Jatoi been punished another incident of murder of an innocent boy would have never taken place! Dear Cheif Justice of PAKISTAN kindly pursue the Shahaziab murder case and make it an object lesson for feudals and other bigwigs who regard a human life equal to a "BULLET".
@S: Yes, you're absolutely right! This is nothing but an effect of Westernization on our culture. If only we had Islamis... hey wait... Tell that to the TTP and LiT! I DARE YOU! Oh, so THEY'RE not the true representatives of Islam? Right, but every mention of a girlfirend is indicative of Western culture, right? Pathetic!!
I don't feel sorry for the boy died, it was his mistake AND WANT OTHER TEENAGERS TO SEE THIS AS AN EXAMPLE and try to learn where we are heading with this culture of GF/BF. Girlfriends are not allowed in Islam in any way(or definition) before marriage. But I do want to see the other party being punished badly of what they did.
@S: "This is what happens when we have western values in our society. Islam is the only solution"
How shameful that you are turning someone's personal tragedy into your ideological dars.
I knew shoiab rather well. He was excellent in school and always came at the top position. I was also aware of the situation as it had happened through mobile. Hamza had taunted him to come or he would come to his house and handle it. Shoiab doesn't come from a feudal or fighting type background so he decided to settle the differences somewhere other than home. A company guard had tagged along as safety which his parents always instruct to take. Shoiab was slapped and abused aswell as the gaurd by a bunch of these boys. Hamza had abused the gaurd which had angered him and shot hiim till he died. Shoiab out of shock had fled and gave no such orders. I hope media does the right job and posts this story as its true and hopefully do their job by focusing on finding the gaurd and take action for the parents sake.
I don't know the inside story, but I am really perplexed with the two points mentioned in the story above. Hamza-the victim was in his school life and was just 16, the maturity begins at 18. And if the parents know the killer then why no FIR?
@ ET Editors: please note the comment ' Taliban are definitely needed to put these guys in their place' by Amir Jafri. Considering that the Taliban are on a murder spree in Karachi for the past three days, I find it incomprehensible you should allow such people to spew their hatred. The writer of this comment should be reported to the Authorities and exposed as a supporter of the Taliban. He or she is as complicit as the thugs who plant the bombs, killing and maiming innocent people. They have nothing to do with islam. It is some kind of death cult.emphasized text
@amir jafri: Really? You think teenage dating is the greatest threat to Pakistan right now? The sad fact of the matter is that millions of Pakistanis share your viewpoint. Peace will never prevail in the country until people with your mindset become a minority.
@Omar: seems like you know a fair bit. Maybe the police need to get their hands on you so that you may help them with their investigation.
Kill the guard life for life.
@amir jafri: @S: so all murders happen over girlfriends? Blame the poor guy who got killed because he had a girlfriend, its all his fault, he deserved it but don't say a single thing about the murderer? Pity your thinking.
It was Gunfight at OK Sehar like like Gunfight at OK Corral. We should rename Karachi as Tombstone like the infamous town and let Wyatt Earp, Doc Holliday, Virgil and Morgan Earp fight the Clantons and McLaurys every Saturday night. Imagine the tourism potential??
Once again, no sign of humanity shown by the killer. I think it is time for US (the youth) to get out of our houses and protest against such crimes. I am ashamed to tell the world that THIS IS MY COUNTRY, just because of these heartless, illiterate and ignorant people. Why let my country fall down just because of few people? Why not get out of our houses to change this? This happens everyday in rural areas, but nobody stands up for them. We need to change the system for which we will have to change ourselves and choose the right leaders to lead us. If not now then WHEN?
might is right. The parents are to blame of their wards behaviour. The wealth of these people are are driving them crazy. Just for a quarrel the kid takes his armed guard. Unless this kid and the jatoi kid goes to the gallows, things will never change
Astugfirullah.
This is so saddening. Poor kid wasshot 4 times? smh
And hello,gun control? :|
@Jibran: you are very wrong. Within just 4 hours this page has had almost 10,000 followers.
https://www.facebook.com/pages/In-Memory-of-Hamza-Ahmed/338611602908495
This all happen where their undistributed power, rights, wealth and forgotten originality exists.... Kid and his guard should get deserve punishment
@Omar so it is Hamza's fault that he dared them to kill him. Right. You might kill someone too some day or at least beat them up to fractures if someone dares you. Keep it up.
Personal guards should be dismissed...guards are supposed to guard Offices, Banks, Malls and such places...not some little hooligan who tries to act like a huge shot..every kid that rolls with guards should be taken into custody and be a part of investigation so they can see how many fights and quarrels have they started in schools or other places where teenagers hangout these days..and after that the ones who are guilty should hit the juvenile 4 years straight and those guards who serve them as loyal dogs should be dismissed and the ones who have taken part in these shootings should be jailed.
Where r the parents . We as parents should take responsibility . When we move without license plates and break signals and gen have guns and show off money power we breed a nation full of children who will be murderers rapist and corrupt individuals .
Will ET and other Media take this case with that same zeal and pursuance as of Shahzaib case? And Karachiites will gather with same voice for Justice campaign. Or only Feudals are easy to blame and curse in Media for every thing, so that urban people of Sindh could be brainwashed and hate-filled stuff could deter a bond between new and old Sindhis.
@S: seriously? If, instead of his girl friend, that girl would have been his wife, then what? Such cases arent non-existant either. Grow up. People like you need to change their attitudes and mentality, instead of blaming other factors for such incidents. Easy way out, blaming liberalism and modernism. Sheesh. Harming other people's lives and property is wrong, period. Western culture isnt just abt relationships and revealing clothing, it also teaches kids to be responsible, to earn their own way, to do chores around the house, carwashes and bakesales for charity. Our spoilt brats dont even pick up their own dirty laundry! They are kids! Why do they need to have armed gun-men with them to resolve issues within their peer group? Narrow-minded people like you are blind to the REAL issues and problems.
the thing that bothers me is that, the death of a boy with well enough connections and everything (considering that most of the teenagers mentioned in the above article are well connected and wealthy) is more talked about than those so many unfortunate others who NO ONE SEEMS to notice that they even exist!!!
Regret that one more young boy died over a petty issue.
Similar and other cases of inhuman treatment in the posh localities of Karachi have become common now-a-days.
The entire responsibility lies on the shoulders of parents of such young boys and girls who give them freedom than what they deserve in this age group.
I don't want to live in such a posh locality where my children get mix up with killer boys and girls.
R.I.P Hamza. All he did was go to resolve the issue, and he got shot? What has happened to Pakistan?
to all the liberals bashing S...
Islam and sharia laws are applicable in Saudia. Go figure how many murders or rape takes place there. You guys have nothing to defend here..even your arguments are not to the point.
In Islamic Sharia there is no such thing as GirlFriends...so technically if the Islamic law was active in Pakistan, such case wouldn't have take place in first place. Secondly if Islamic law was active in Pakistan, the person who killed that boy, think twice before taking such step as In Islamic sharia the punishment is beheading in Public. Thirdly, If Islamic law was active in Pakistan, the person gets the due punishment in time.
Because someone misuse Islam for his own benefit, doesn't mean that the Islamic System is bad, Before commenting, do proper research and then comment on something.
@ET I hope you will show some balls and publish it.
@S: seriously? If, instead of his girl friend, thats girl would have been his wife, then what? Such cases arent non-existant either. Grow up. People like you need to change their attitudes and mentality, instead of blaming other factors for such incidents. Easy way out, blaming liberalism and modernism. Sheesh. Harming other people's lives and property is wrong, period.
The only solution is to deweaponize Karachi.
Why can't this just be left as a straight forward case of a guard who doesn't know any better because of his background and teenagers who will act rebelliously due to the phase they are going through. Something tragic happened. Let other cases deal with themselves, Mourn for the loss of Hamza and plead for simple justice of this one. People keep bringing up a gazillion issues instead of merely feeling sorry for the 16 year old's family who lost their son.
I know that fighting over a girl and loosing his live may seem worthless to you ,but to his family especially his mother who just witnessed her 16 year old son's dead body in front of her and his father who buried his son were life changing moments.Instead of criticising about the situation of Pakistan and talking about further problems, we should pray for his family and hope that one day justice may be served and may this be a lesson to all of the youngsters out there.
Zann, Zarr and Zameen ... its all natural .... it started with the onset of humanity and will continue till end ... bear with it !!!
First of all this is all because of too much westren influence in our society...16 years old in relationships??! Taking up these matters in there own hands.?! and its 21st century and these feudal lords and their Sons still thinks that they own the lives of people. From Shazeb khan to stealing Donuts and now this incidenut.Stand up now against this feudalism. Before u also get killed by some Shahrukh's or Shoaib's guard.
Taken the scenario... the guard should be shot with his crime read to him in public, and if Shoaib had requested his guard to shoot lil guy.. Shoaib should be tried under anti-terrorism law!
This has nothing to do with "liberalism" or "western values". Yes, the fight involved a girl - maybe a girl-friend. The fight could easily have been over a sister/a male friend/just a petty fight over nothing. Then who would you blame? It's way too easy to pin this on "THE WEST" and "LIBERALS": religion has NOTHING to do with this matter. And it's sad that people can't see that. This is about feeling like money, and the corrupt political system, allow you to get away with murder. This is about guns and guards leading to a sense of superiority and bravado; no 16 year old needs a guard to protect him against another 16 year old. If people desire to have guards - have them for security against actual robbers, and teach those you employ that defending childish bravado is not in their job description.
@S: Guns have no connection with a 'westen culture' just as guns have no connection with Islam. To equate such acts of violence to a religion is exactly what the world is doing when they presume all terrorists are Muslim. Surely 'S' you see the irony in your statement?
Such acts are a result of, amongst many other social failures, lawlessness - where people are all too aware that few, if any, are held accountable in this country.
Another form of "honor killing"
This ones for 'S' who believes its the western values due to which the child lost his life. Firstly, the west does not encourage the hiring of guards along with you,its not the west which encourages youngsters to fight over such petty matters and also it is not the west which has put across the inequality of power! Stop blaming the west for our own mistakes! In our country, thanks to the situation, guards have now become a neccesity, kids fighting and arguing amgonst each other is something very normal and not inspired by the west! STOP with blaming other people for the faults we as a nation have been making! This incident is undoubtedly sad and my deepest condolences go out to the family of Hamza! May Allah give them the courage and strength to pass through this phase of their life!
@ S ' Islam is the only solution ' ? To what exactly? Your great Zia ul Haq tried it, didn't he. It didn't work. The problem isn't about Islamic values, its the rule of Law that is non-existent. That is why people like Shoaib's family hire gun men to do their evil deeds. Its because they know that they can bribe police, the courts etc. and get away woth it. I live in a western country. People do not murder to settle petty scores. And when they do, they are made to face the full brunt of the law. That is the greatest deterrence to crime. Nothing to do with Islam or lack of it in our society.
This incident has little to do with Islam or westernisation; it is about a 16 year old kid being shot dead. Westernisation or liberalisation didnt pull the trigger, rich kids with their uber necessary protection, however, did. Before judging on the 'sins' of a teenager, it's more intelligent to address the root of the cause; our nation's idiocy. Unfortunately, Tribune's comment section is but a sample of it, at times.
@Ali: Innocent political workers? hahahahaha what a joke!
@S: I like that delusion. Clearly all of Austrailia (a non-Muslim country which is 10 times safer than Pakistan) should seek your consultation.
gives a whole new meaning to the saying "the food at Latte Lounge is to die for"
@S: no sir, this is what happens when there is no justice in the society. At least Western values ensure that! Murderers are mostly caught and punished according to the Law of the land, maybe we can do with these Western values! Sorry but is not a Islam V West debate.
okay, wait a minute. a teenager was shot dead by armed guards and the conversation is simplified to be about bad morals and oh no he had a girlfriend so obviously these things were bound to happen? hamzas story should spark a conversation about gun control, about vigilante justice, about the benefits and weaknesses of safety protocols and whether they really do more harm than good. it should be about the mindlessness of this sort of violence and the fact that hamzas story may get more attention because he comes from a privileged background but that eventually he will just be another name in the watershed that is karachis spirl into anarchy. to make this about nothing more than liberal values and girlfriends is a gross understatement and disservice.
this article is making Hamza Ahmed out to be a very innocent character. He was not trying to "resolve the matter" he was a very aggressive person. He had a history of fights or as karachi youth call them "phaddas". Im not saying what the guard did was right but the bigger picture needs to be looked at here.
@ashar: Like what? Killings related to honor? Possessing guns? Yes if we follow fundos demands this will not happen, because if we lock half the population inside their rooms, crimes will decrease. Ridiculous argument.
A prime example showing that we are corrupt from top to bottom.
Our mindset needs a revolution more than anything!
The dangers of trying to act older than you are. Why can't kids just be kids? Fighting with guns over fickle "relationships" is plain stupid.
'Initial details suggest that Shoaib had been harassing Hamza’s girlfriend' ah burgars, not to make fun of him ,it was a tragic situation but why are people such idiots, boggles my mind, he came from a well off family so atleast after his death he got a news article written about him but, I know it's become a cliche, why arn't there any articles about the poor kids who are shot each day because of trying to feed their families not because of a girl.
They say " everything is fair in war and love". Also, when there are thousands of killings happenings in the name of " honor killings", so this case has nothing to do with religion.
If chaudhry PCO can hurry up with Shahzeb's open n shut case maybe events like these wont happen or at least be reduced in number
@S:
Yes. Thats exactly the problem here. Not the whole "guard" and "I'm so cool I have guns and a rich daddy so I have to suffer no consequences in life" has nothing to do with this problem. He died because he has a girlfriend.
But I guess you have a point. Lets invite the TTP in and ask them to draw up an Islamic constitution and live by their rules. No more terrorism either then!
@ashar: What has "freedom" to do with killing people?! and what have liberals have to do with a murder for whatever reason it took place. Can you please explain. They may have fought over the victim's girlfriend but that does not mean you can murder somebody?! And what a murder has to do with liberals and conservatives? oh please, see the light of the day and don't confuse a very wrong thing with something you think is wrong.
Since the killer's name does not have Jatoi in his name and the victim does not have a father who's in police, there won't be any follow up by the social media.
to "S"
no, this is what happens when everyone owns a gun/guard with a gun.
Very responsible reporting ....,its a on going investigation and police trying to trace them through phones and here mr. Reporter giving it away in the public about police tactics .
Such cases defame DHA run by Army. We must make sure such events only take place in civilian areas.
@ S and Asher: This has nothing to do with western values. Would you have said the samething had they been a married couple?
Todays kids trying to live an adults life even before becoming fully grown adult. This is the true face of our society.
Hamza's father shall have to gather courage and stand up like the family of Shahzeb's father. Another example is that of Fazlur Rehman (Fazli) whose son who was a Barrister from England was murdered by his neighbor Abdul Qadoos. Fazli continued the case vigorously and the killer was finally hanged. Please do not give up and stand up.
Isn't it about time we heavily regulated the purchasing of guns in Karachi?
Ahh, the words of the ex Interior Minister echo well here who famously said, that wives and girlfriends were responsible for such acts.
This is what happens when we have western values in our society. Islam is the only solution
Something new to cry and protest over for a few days? These things will continue.
Nothing will change unless we bring a new system, an honest system into power. Shahrukh still not punished.
Of course expect more of this since the Shazeb case is being delayed and justice is being denied.
I would like to see the comments of Pakistani so called liberals on this matter since it involved all kind of freedom that they advocate and fundamentalist don't allow. However I am sad for poor soul, RIP
Can TTP help the poor people in this respect? Can they instead of Killing innocent political workers Kill such Feudal Lords?
