Contingency plans: 421 polling stations declared most sensitive

Sukkur commissioner says they have issued guidelines to ensure fair elections.

SUKKUR:  A total of 421 polling stations have been declared most sensitive while 1,123 have been declared sensitive in Sukkur division.

At a meeting with Sukkur commissioner Niaz Abbasi, DIG Sukkur, Shahbaz Rangers commandant, divisional election commissioner, deputy commissioners and SSPs of Sukkur, Khairpur, Naushero Feroze and Ghotki discussed security plans for the upcoming elections.

The district-wise breakup showed that Sukkur has 80 most sensitive polling stations and 140 sensitive ones, Ghotki has 116 most sensitive stations and 178 sensitive ones, while Khairpur has 185 most sensitive and 272 sensitive polling stations. Similarly, Naushero Feroze has 40 of the most sensitive polling stations and 443 sensitive ones.



Talking to the media, Abbasi said that necessary guidelines have been given to the officers to conduct free and fair elections. DIG Sultan Khawaja said that all efforts are being made to ensure foolproof security and they need 26,000 men to patrol and deploy at the polling stations in all the four districts. Quoting intelligence agencies, he said that some of the candidates are on the hit-list and steps have been taken to foil such plans.
