KARACHI: Experienced golfer Mohammad Munir earned a one-shot lead to go top of the leader board after the second round of the Pakistan Open Golf Championship at the Defence Authority Country and Golf Club in Karachi yesterday.

Munir, who finished second on the opening day with 68, fired a two under-par 70 to secure an aggregate of six-under par 138.

Munir replaced Matloob Ahmed at the top as the Lahore-based golfer, who managed a five-under-par 67 in the first round, suffered a dip in form on the second day to return with a card of five-under-par 139, slipping to second spot.

However, the best display of the day came from Karachi-based Waheed Baloch who leapfrogged to third place after playing the second round at four-under par 68 for a total of 141.

Islamabad’s Mohammad Nazir (142) is in joint fourth spot with Mohammad Zubair.

Meanwhile, things got worse for defending champion and pre-event favourite Shabbir Iqbal who finished with a total of three-over-par 147.
