The blast was reported to have occurred outside the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) election office in Nusrat Bhutto Colony.
The office was closed at the time of the blast as the party had decided to close down all its election offices in Karachi after a blast targeted them earlier this week.
The wounded were immediately shifted to Abbasi Shaheed hospital.
Police and Rangers cordoned off the area, while the Bomb Disposal Squad swept the scene of the blast.
According SSP Central Amir Farooqi, two kilogrammes of explosives were planted on a motorcycle. The explosives were attached to a remote-controlled device.
Hyderabad Police was placed on high alert after the blast in Karachi.
MQM chief Altaf Hussain strongly condemned this incident and the party announced that it would observe a day of mourning all across Sindh on Friday. Private schools across the city will also remain closed.
On Tuesday, a crude bomb targeting a roadside camp office of the MQM killed at least three people and injured 30 others.
The Taliban have directly threatened the three main parties in the outgoing government, the Pakistan Peoples Party, the Awami National Party and the MQM, which are often described as secular.

@the bitter truth: Bitter Truth Sahib, who says that Punjab is Pakistan? In Punjab, you can find terrible unfortunate people who can not fill their own bellies. They too need to get out of this mess created by Wadera, Jageer Dars and off spring of Bopali Nawabs.
Y all Pakistani people blame to MQM................... just bcz of they represent urdu speaking...................... i & my vote is just 4 MQM bcz i understand that they r not the cause of violence in Karachi.
@Kami:
Kami you are a perfect candidate for an investigative reporter in ET. Offices have been closed since the first attack that occured two days back. Lol. Then why would these empty-headed terrorists want to waster their explosives on an already-closed office? the mind staggers at hearing such hilarious things. Hahaha.
Hats off to you Kami. You made everyone of us think. But be as safe as you can, as these facts can get you in serious trouble (you must take precautionary measures before going out).
near MQM office...not inside MQM office... thing to ponder
Will offices also close tomorrow or they'll still be open ?
@ashar: office was closed. Get your facts correct before making a stupid comment.
Only one question to MQM. why didn't you close your offices after the former blast at Pyala Hotel, despite of making a declaration through your Quaid. conspiracy?
Instead of calling strikes every now and then and making it miserable for the people of Karachi to come up with adhoc plans for their next day, why don't police, rangers and army shutdown the city for 10, 15 days and carry out a thorough clean-up operation and eliminate (and i seriously mean ELIMINATE) all notorious gangs, individuals and terrorists. This would also cause inconvenience to people but at least it would ensure that there would be no more major terrorist attacks on people.
PS : I and all the Karachiites have become SICK!
only solution is that we must vote, en masses, and let the miscreants know that this is our country.
@Karachiite really? when the people like u will stop supporting these taliban/ttp/ssp terrorist?
@Karachiite: Have some shame people are dieing the least one can do is condemn it.
With MQM. Against the Taliban. Till the end
I am not an MQM supporter. But I cannot believe anyone with a drop of humanity and sanity who would not condemn these attacks. A true karachite and A TRUE PAKISTANI would never bring up political arguments on such news. I am saddened by this. Everyone of you has been brainwashed by your families and their "correct" moral and ethnic boundaries.
Shame on all of you. I hope PTI can make a difference. Or Karachi will turn into rubble. And Pakistan will never be the same. Karachi is Pakistan.
Enough is enough, MQM must put Karachi on hault. Either Army take action or karachi will be burned to ashes. No more topi drama for Elections. First, Militants have to be wipe then other stuff can happen like elections
i heared it too, a loud noise. :(
It is very strange that after a blast that took place day before yesterday and then a strike was called yesterday by MQM, again there is another blast today and that too near MQM office, killing four people instantly and many others got injured.
If the Government of Pakistan and Government Sindh cannot stop suicide bombing in Karachi, I fear that on the Election Day there will be suicide bombings as well and due to fear very less people will be coming out to cast their on the Election Day due to unforeseen circumtances.
The cheapest thing on the Election Day will be precious human lives, as no body will take care of voters.
Political differences aside, I condemn this terrorist attack on MQM,
Time and again these ttp terrorists remind us that they are against anything and everything we as a nation stand for.
I heard this blast, it was terrible. :(
