The Sindh Science Society, a body representing science teachers of the Sindh University, has sprung into action to get a science centre on the university premises vacated which is allegedly occupied by the police.
The society’s office bearers, led by its president Dr Ali Murtaza, met the Pakistan Science Foundation chairperson on Wednesday to raise the appeal.
According to a society member, the building, which covers an area of 1.2 acres and consists of seven rooms and a big hall, has been under police occupation since 1986. Later, a few of the rooms were converted into union council and revenue offices.
He also said that in 1994 the Sindh ombudsman had ordered the police to vacate the building but to no avail. PSF chairperson Dr Soomro, along with the society office bearers, has appealed to the government to vacate the facility so that it could be used for academic purposes.
