According to the report, Patimat Suleimanova said the US authorities had told the family they could have the 26-year-old’s body.
One of the suspects' uncle approached the mosque requesting a burial and funeral services but the mosque declined the request, she added.
On Tuesday, a spokesperson for the mosque said that the decision to conduct the burial would be made by a scholar. “This one is complex because the things that this guy did were just absolutely disgraceful,” he was quoted by NBC News as saying.
Authorities are still working to piece together a motive for the twin bombings just over a week ago at the Boston marathon that killed three people and wounded 264, as more details emerged about the ethnic Chechen brothers accused of carrying out the attack.
Still hospitalised, 19-year-old Dzhokhar has reportedly admitted to being driven by radical ideas, telling investigators the attacks were motivated by the US wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The brothers weren't particularly diligent about attending prayer services, community members said, adding that the mosque has an ongoing cooperation with authorities to report any suspicious behaviour.
Older brother Tamerlan, 26, who was killed during a shootout with police on Friday, began attending prayers intermittently over a year ago, the Cambridge mosque said Tuesday in a statement.
The small mosque, called the "Islamic Society of Boston," hosts around a hundred worshippers at Friday prayers, and around 20 during the week.

@naeem khan Manhattan,Ks: Thank you brother for everything well said. Let Allah be the judge and for those who are true beleivers know that you cannot judge and it is Fard Kifayah to do a Janaaza for your brother or sister in islam. We would be held accountable on the day of judgement.
So brothers and sisters let us all put hate aside and forgive and do his jannaaza for this is our duty as beleivers and let Allaah be the judge and the law do what the have to do
@Water Bottle: An eye for an eye is an ancient practice of biblical times. Saudis would be willing to accept a hand or tooth in exchane for an EYE.

"There goes our religion out of the window, sure he has committed atrocities but God is the ultimate judge, we Muslims should forgive all the tress passers and sinners."
Is that what Islam teaches? Then the Sharia law of 'eye for an eye' practiced in Saudi is wrong?
Also, I want to know from you, let's say someone murders your family member. I'm sure you would forgive him and not give a police complaint, would you.
Actually, if every sin is to be forgiven Pakistan needs no laws, no courts, no police. Keep forgiving all the sinners.
are you serious!prayer for this monster who enjoy killing innocents. have some life people
The parents want to take the body of their son back home to chechinia, if allowed by the Governor of Boston.State!

muslim funeral ceremony was never that difficult and they don't find a single muslim including the suspect's family to offer muslim funeral ceremony
Now I am even more confused about the wide spread and voluntary funeral prayers for Osama!
@zahra: {@naeem khan Manhattan,Ks: I like your comment}
Are you seriously serious? Does the referred comment resonates with official ET editorial policy? I am absolutely shocked. You sure got your priorities mixed up.
@naeem khan Manhattan,Ks: He makes a lot of sense and I agree with him. Salams
@naeem khan Manhattan,Ks: on the other hand, a lot of people comment that those who commit acts of terror cannot be called Muslims because their acts do not represent islam at all. In that case, won't the refusal by mosque justified?
@naeem khan Manhattan,Ks: I think the Imam is right to not hold funeral prayers at the Mosque. Tsarnaev is a disgrace to Islam and all of humanity to do something like this. God's message is not to KILL, it is to LOVE, and anyone who hates and kills deserves to be punished in this world and the thereafter. He should not be given any respect of any kind. His soul is suffering now and will continue to. No terrorist, Islamic or not, should never be given any respect.
naeem khan Manhattan,Ks " Who are we to judge anyone even those who are the worst kind of human beings, God is the one who will forgive all the sinners, there should be no hate for any one in our hearts regardless who they are." Absolutely right and let's start from ripping off so called blasphemy laws. The people who are not-Muslims may be judged by God and not by terrorist fanatics.
Neither at birth, nor in life during prayers and certainly not after death, a person born as a muslim and declared a muslim needs the services of an Imam of a mosque. This is different among the christians, who cannot be declared a christian, nor are able to pray, nor live as christians and certainly are not buried as christians, without the presence and active participation of a Priest. The task of the Imam in a mosque is to care for the maintainance of the house of God and to serve the muslim community regardless of the character and the muslimness of the congregation. The Boston Imam is misguided and playing politics and his refusal to say prayers at a funeral is EVIL! The parents are well advised to have him buried in the home of his ancestors.

I agree with all comments. It is very hard for those not living in Boston to understand the Imam of Boston, what he is thinking, the atmosphere he is in. IT would have been better if his family want him buried in a muslim way to do it in another place, what about shipping his body back to Russia where his parents are? It is not that easy as that mosque in Boston will forever now be a target of hate if they do the funeral prayers for him. Okay we must pray for the dead but life is for living and to protect others lives regardless of religion is important.
YES! Finally, we Muslims have the courage to REJECT terrorists. May such people who shame the ENTIRE Islamic faith get their deserved punishments.
Disown and condemn the act, but don't fall into the same pit of hatred by denying the dead man his burial right.
I don't understand people saying 'God is the ultimate Judge' and the people should not take a stand for this issue because it is not our decision to make. I agree, God infact is the Judge but so we should really forgive a terrorist committing such atrocious crimes and mass murder because hey, who are we to judge? I believe the decision taken by the mosque was a correct one. We need to disown these people who committ these crimes in the name of Islam.
@naeem khan Manhattan,Ks: Maybe you should also forgive blasphemers and apostates. Maybe you should have forgiven Salman Taseer too.
I think the Azan was read in his ears at birth so no matter what he is a Muslim and should be buried within the confines mandated by Islam. No stupid mullah can trump the words of the Almighty. And NO church would have refused had he been Christian. Sad our mullahs are more worried about media backlash than they are the afterlife.
@Dr. Qazi: Hope you are not a medical doctor, because next thing would be a statement that Tsarnaev could not have been a human being, since he committed inhumane acts, so if someone like him needs surgery he should be sent to a veterinarian. Mosques, synagogues, churches, and temples are there for religious ceremonies for their adherents. If the deceased's family requests a funeral ceremony it is incumbent upon the place of worship to provide it. We humans should leave the judgment to God Almighty. This mosque just succumbed to the societal pressure in its' quest to be "politically right." Shame on them. By the way, it should be noteworthy that many mosques also customarily refuse to offer funeral prayers for people who commit suicide. Another gutless thing to do, especially since many of these suicide victims are mentally ill people, mostly suffering from depression.
@naeem khan Manhattan,Ks: I like your comment and would like you to write a longer ppiece for ET blogs. I am the Head of Blogs section at ET please email me at blog@tribune.com.pk +
So. I came down to "he is muslim"?...huh.. STOP IT OBAMA!!
ET news should not try to belittle the mosque by calling it a small mosque. About 20 people on a weekday (work) is not little. And don't forget Friday is also a work day. The fact remains that the mosque did not want anything to do with this terrorist who has no religion and was there only to kill and defame Islam.
These terrorists and their mentors have been abusing Islam to justify their mass murders and terrorism. It is about time that Muslims in general and mosques in particular should prove to the world that they are not with these terrorist killers of innocent people. Simply saying that Islam is a religion of peace and the killers cannot be Muslims, has no affect or deterrent against the killers and the world laughs at us. We need to show the outrage and prove to the world that these terrorist killers are not a part of our mosques and are excluded from the mainstream peaceful Muslims. If we continue to offer burial facilities and prayers for these terrorists then we are not showing any remorse or outrage against terrorism.
@AAA , @naeem khan Manhattan
The terrorists who plotted Mumbai attacks were also refused burial by Mosques in Mumbai. The reason is simple. Islam is a peaceful religion. A terrorist loses all claims to be called a Muslim. In fact a terrorist has no religion
Nathan
Right decision. Anyone who is responsible for such magnitude of brutalities falls outside the fold of Islam. It is about time we Muslims send out a strong message to terrorists that we are getting tired of them going around committing the most heinous acts in the name of our religion.
I think its the right move. By publicly 'disowning' the bombers, the Mosque has done a good thing. Let the world know that the religion does not support such activities.
The decision by the mosque is not religious but a social one. Anyone committing terrorist act is no longer part of the community. And thus the community has no obligation to provide services such as burial. Relatives of this horrible person should arrange a non-denominational place to get dead-body prepared and then bury in an unmarked grave in order to avoid media circus.
Thank you
This is an excellent decision by the mosque. The message is that now on the terrorists who kill innocent people would not be considered Muslim, and therefore would lose the right for Islamic funeral and burial. I would love to see all leading North American Muslim organizations endorsing this view to send out a clear message that if you commit this kind of atrocity against innocent people even in the name of Jihad, you are not one of us, neither alive nor dead. So, watch out.
Cant Pakistani citizens & mullas do the same thing to defeat terror?
This guy was pure evil.
Thats plain stupid..they should not refuse prayers...it typical of molvis there...they get so scared of the backlash or aftermath....this will not make anyone like you or respect you....please people do things for the right reasons...
I just hope that this is not just an emotional / superficial act to make a favourable head line. I have limited knowledge but just hope that it has been endorsed by a creditble / reputable muslim scholar.
There goes our religion out of the window, sure he has committed atrocities but God is the ultimate judge, we Muslims should forgive all the tress passers and sinners. If his family is asking the Muslim ceremony to bury him and let it be done in a very simple way with out the media and fan fare, they are his family and they loved him and are grieving, we should be accommodating them, the Imam is wrong in this situation and he should not be placating the local authorities, and, I am sure the local authorities will not object to his proper burial after all there are sinner among them too. Who are we to judge anyone even those who are the worst kind of human beings, God is the one who will forgive all the sinners, there should be no hate for any one in our hearts regardless who they are. We are civilized people living a civilize country and should be magnanimous while dealing with other human beings even the worst kind.
