Justice demanded: LHC takes notice of gang-rape report

District and sessions judge asked to submit a report within a week.

The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday took notice of the news about the gang rape of a ten-year-old girl in Toba Tek Singh and directed the district and sessions judge to probe into the matter and submit a detailed report within a week.

Siddiq Mughal, a resident of Chak 345-GB, Toba Tek Singh, had complained to Chuttiana police that his daughter was kidnapped and raped by two unidentified men. He said police had been unable to arrest the men. Our correspondent

Petition against scrutiny

A full bench of the Lahore High Court on Tuesday provisionally allowed all candidates disqualified for defaulting on agricultural income tax to contest the upcoming general election.

The bench passed the order while hearing a writ-petition by former federal minister Rana Farooq Saeed Khan. Khan’s nomination papers had been rejected by a returning officer and the election tribunal from NA-79, Faisalabad.

The bench passed the order after remarking that apparently the Board of Revenue had not been recovering tax on agricultural incomes.

Advocate Azam Nazir Tarar, counsel of the former minister, told the bench that there were two kinds of agricultural tax – one on land and the other on income. He said the BoR received tax on agricultural land only of the two.  The bench issued a general order and conditionally allowed all candidates disqualified for default on agricultural income tax to contest the polls. The bench also directed the BoR to submit detailed record and the tax recovery mechanism on Wednesday (today).
