A full bench of the Lahore High Court on Tuesday allowed Muhammad Aslam Madhyana to contest elections from PP-31, Sargodha, suspending the returning officer’s decision.
The full bench headed by Justice Ijazul Ahsan also provisionally allowed his son-in-law, Nadeem Sarwar, to contest elections.
As hearing resumed on Tuesday, Madhyana told the bench that the PP-31 RO had disqualified him to contest elections. He said the RO’s decision violated the norms of justice as no court had convicted him in any case. A retired teacher, Nafees Ahmad who has alleged torture by Madhyana and his accomplices, alleged that Madhyana had grabbed a school land. He said 40 cases had been registered against him on several allegations. He prayed for dismissal of Madhyana’s appeal.
