Gunned Down: One killed, police official injured

Police said that Nawaz had no enemies and speculated it might be an incident of target killing.

SHABQADAR: A man was killed and a sub-inspector injured when unidentified gunmen opened fire at them on Monday evening in Hajizai area of Shabqadar, Charsadda. A Shabqadar police official said sub-inspector Nawaz Khan of the Peshawar police was returning home to Tarkha along with his cousin, Shaukat Khan, when the assailants fired at them. Shaukat died on the spot while Nawaz was shifted to the Lady Reading Hospital. Police began a search operation in the area, but no suspects were apprehended. An FIR had not been registered till the filing of this report. The police official said Nawaz had no enemies and speculated it might be an incident of target killing. Many political workers, government officials and social workers have been targeted in Shabqadar tehsil of Charsadda in the past.
